Fresh Wipes....how much???

I was sent a pack to try before they re-branded from Swetwipes. They contain chlorhexidine (as in Hibiscrub) so will kill off more bugs and smells than ordinary bed bath wipes.

Dymacare does both anti-bac and chlorhexidine bed bath wipes as well as plain wipes. I wouldn't go to hospital without some kind of skin-friendly anti-microbial wipe and the Fresh Wipes are the only unscented ones I can find. They're available direct from Freshwipes.co.uk and if you sign up they do send some pretty good offers.

Any kind of bed bath wipe is great if you're ill but if you're very fatigued due to illness, the chlorhexidine ones keep you fresher for longer and will help keep any wounds clean. The no-rinse foams are also great to keep around for elderly, ill or disabled people.

Keep your wipes in a plastic bag and they don't dry out anywhere near as quickly as normal.
I can't believe they called them swetwipes! Are they massive wet wipes for odorous Mary's? Imagine if someone saw them in ones massive bag?

It's not the worst name I've seen. I glimpsed something called "ToppCock" in my nephew's sports bag. I had no idea what it was so asked my sister. It's apparently a product for sweaty balls!

Thanks, everyone. I am feeling better but still not completely back to normal. It's nice to be back here, though, as I know I'm on the mend.

Sorry, I read this before reading about being poorly. That was clumsy. I think I posted somewhere about a 'festival shower'

I have heard good things about the clinell? wipes (the ones in a green lockable packet) I'm not sure what they contain but I frequently see them in hospital. I have just seen Alters post about Cordysol mouthwash. Wouldn't the dew stuff (I use Clinicept) work?
My Mom is having an abdominal hernia op in March. It's large - tennis ballish size & the doc said to get it sorted as leaving them can be a risk for a twisted intestine which is V dangerous/fatal. It's not keyhole surgery & they are doing it under local. She is getting on a bit (76) & is a bit delicate so of course I'll be v worried about her. Do any of you wise 'Aunties' have any experience/tips here?
Thanks xx

I sold a product called something like fresh clean balls (really) during a heat wave. It was for betty smollocks - not mine, you understand. The thing about male products is that they tend to do what it says on the tin. others should take note

I'd be honoured to be an auntie :) Happy to hear you don't suffer with betty smollocks :ROFLMAO:

The green Clinell are surface wipes. They do a turquoise colour that's hand and surface or blue that are hand wipes. The pink ones are the chlorhexidine ones that keep the skin microbe-free for up to 6 hours (like the Fresh Wipes but for hospital I'd probably get Clinell).

To anyone going in for an op I'd say to use Hibiscrub as directed on the bottle for 5 days pre-op. This is a surgical prep scrub that will help keep your chances of picking up an infection much lower. Some surgeons will give a patient a bottle to use when the consultation takes place. If they don't buy some! It'll be the best form of insurance you can get.

My cousin picked up C-Diff after a bowel op. She also developed a wound infection. She was treated with antibiotics that nearly killed her. Prevention is better than cure.

There is a lot of info on the Gama Healthcare website - they make Clinell. They have a very informative blog but it can be worrying for someone a bit OCD like me.

Dew and Clinicept are my favourite things! I use Dew for everything including on cuts and grazes and as a hand san. I love it as it kills just about everything in seconds, including Norovirus. Alcohol hand san won't touch Noro. I initially bought Dew after researching something that would kill Noro as I'd had a bout years ago and never want it again.

The only problem with Dew and Clinicept would be their lack of staying power. Hypochlorous will kill everything but doesn't hang around on the skin killing germs. That's why I used Clinicept as a daily mouthwash for a good while but now use half and half water and Dew freshly mixed into an eggcup (penny-pinching at the mo). If I think I have a problem starting I'll use Corsodyl as it binds to the skin and continues killing the nasties.

Good on your mum having it under local. It's what I would do as I'm a bit cowardly about general. I'd give her the Hibiscrub for the 5 days but if she has difficulties showering, try her on the Clinell Pink cloths: https://gamahealthcare.com/products/chlorhexidine-wash-cloths

I'd also give her a bottle of Dew sanitiser to take with her and a pack of hand and surface wipes: https://gamahealthcare.com/products/clinell-hand-and-surface-wipes-84 These are great to put in a pocket (also for men and ladies like me that don't use a bag): https://www.gamahealthcare.com/products/antimicrobial-hand-wipes-100

Mark her items as things frequently get 'moved' from one patient to another!

There are other options out there that could help prevent your mum from picking up an infection. Nilaqua does good wipes and hand sanitisers, however, there's also a product called Zoono that I'm a fan of www.zoono.co.uk . It binds to the skin for up to 24 hours. They also sell a surface sanitiser that works for up to 30 days. I have sensitive skin and am allergic to a lot of stuff but Zoono doesn't affect me at all.

I've always been a belt and braces type but the pandemic kicked my OCD into high gear! I avoid hospitals like the plague but if I needed to go in I'd be belt and bracing with all the above! Hope your mum has a good outcome and a fast, infection-free recovery.

OH Alter!!! I've had a bit of surgery in my life and most likely might need more. Your comments are legendary. So much I haven't known. You're the best xx

Mr AE would definitely disagree about the good and best comments but thank you. Just my experience of having to find alternatives really and happy to be helpful.

One thing I'd like to add is that I also use Napisan in my laundry if I've been to hospital or ill. I've used it since my daughter was born as she had a few problems and it was the only stuff her skin would tolerate while getting nappies really clean. It's so much better than the Oxi/Vanish powders as it doesn't have enzymes.

I was brought up with pre-antibiotic-days parents where a small infection frequently killed. I remember tales of neighbours and family dying from a scratch. Antibiotics were life-savers but we can't rely on them any more, especially for people who get ill in hospital - as my cousin can attest.

Cleanliness is the forgotten skill these days. My grandmother nursed during the 1918-20 Spanish flu. A small hospital near Southampton so where the doctors insisted on face coverings and hand washing. My nan never caught it. She moved close to Craig-Y-Nos when her daughter and niece was hospitalised there with TB so she could nurse them. It was another hospital that had strict hygiene measures in place. Being brought up with a family that took it seriously rubbed off on me though I must admit I do go a little OTT which is unhelpful for my OCD!

I used napisan on my horse numnah's.

I find vanish oxy fine for non reactive humans though. IT's the enzymatic action that gets the fabric clean.

This is a useful post. I’ve got a few holidays booked for this year including 2 cruises. Having seen for myself on a cruise well before covid, not everyone shares my view that public hygiene is very important. Rather than rely on other people doing their bit to stop spreading germs, I need to go on the defensive and take with me some of the products you mention here.

Take a bottle of Dew sanitiser (or Aquaint's baby water if you want to buy from Boots rather than direct from Dew). Hypochlorous acid is the only sanitiser that will kill Norovirus.

I keep a small bottle in a home-made holster on my crutch (it doesn't last well in heat or sunlight) rather than in a pocket.

I also apply Zoono (belt and braces OCD ) before I leave the house as it stays on the skin a long time. I was made to use alcohol hand san before entering a vaccination centre and worried it would remove the Zoono. I emailed them and had a reply stating it stays on the skin until naturally exfoliated so alcohol or normal hand washing won't affect it.

It's not a guarantee against Noro as it can be caught from infected food but every little helps! Have a lovely time and don't worry as much as I do :ROFLMAO:

Some wonderful information- thank you. I am trying some of your suggestions as quick but effective hygiene with Father as getting him in and out of a bath is getting more difficult and I am starting to struggle lifting him when he decides he cant remember how to stand up.
