I loved, and still love, the skin on custard. I could live on custard, in fact when I was pregnant with my first I think I did. I was certainly not undernourished at any point :). I would make a pint of Birds custard, leave it to cool down and eat the top few inches including skin as it formed. Yummy
Two words - Manchester Tart!!! I could live on it. Used to have big squares of it for school pudding, still love it all these years on.

My mum loved the skin of the custard 🤢.

Custard is strange stuff. If you have a huge tub of it (think paddling pool) you can easily push your hand into it. But if you smack it hard, it will feel like concrete. In fact, you could actually run on top of it, but as soon as you stopped you would sink.
It that Bird's Custard or your own homemade?!

So did mine! I still think it's the equivalent of a food scab. I can't bear it when you heat milk in the microwave for a milky coffee or something and then you get a skin forming on the top in the mug. And if you're not vigilant, you end up with it in your mouth and it sticks to your teeth and tongue and everything... Ghastly.
