Exploitation of female presenters?

Gems female presenters would do well to switch over to QVC for help on what constitutes a good manicure and groomed appearance. Don't they realise that the closeup of the hand displaying the items can make or break a sale? I have a real problem with nasty nails (dirty, long acrylic tippexed ends)as imo it shows contempt for the viewer/customer. Do yourself a favour Gems and take our grooming comments seriously. Fake tan, "porno nails" (a male friend's term for these acrylic horrors) and low cut dresses... God help us!

It makes me wonder who GemsTV thinks their customer base is (or should be): jewellery aficionados wanting to make considered purchases, or tarty Jordan/Jodie Marsh "wannabes" with fake tans, fake nails, fake hair and fake ****s stuffed into spangly mini dresses looking for any old "bling".

After all, who else is going to identify with a tarty presenter spilling out of her low-cut top on air and flashing her filthy plastic talons to the world? :wonder:

hi peeps, this is my very first time although I have been following this site for years. I can no longer sit on the fence and keep quiet. I don't know how to start a new thread so apologies for jumping on the back of this one. I totally agree about the downward spiral of the inapropriate dress code for the women presenters on gemstv. Perhaps they are straight off to the casino after their shift. Who knows what they think any more. Morals out the window. Being a regular buyer from the old gems I am very saddend by their speedy decline this time round. I have not bought anything for a few years and nor do I intend doing so. It started off with such promise the second time round and I was glad they were back. But it has very become like spive selling on the pavement out of a suitcase. I can only put it down to the economic climate, it cann't be easy running a company and make a profit these days. My lesson for today is, never believe what the salesperson says on tv because there is nobody behind the scenes checking the accuracy of what is being promised. Yesterday at 4pm Scott was selling a 1ct champagne diamond ring in sterling silver. 3 TIMES he said it was in 4gms of solid gold. To try and stop him make a complete idiot of himself any further I phoned the help desk and to their credit someone did answer the phone. I told them the error of Scott's ways and after a few seconds he looked at his screen and backpaddling for all he was worth he said 'can you imagine if this was in solid gold what the price of it would be?' I know mistakes happen unintentionally to all of us but it would be better if there was someone at their end checking what the salesperson is saying. I think they do on other channels because if someone says something wrong then it is quickly amended. I am unable to understand how they can keep on saying on air that they are running genuine reverse auctions, and getting away with it. but that's just me and what do I know.

Ali's looking elegant and classy tonight- beautiful manicure and nicely dressed. Perfect background for displaying the jewellery.

Nice one Ali and Gems, keep it up.

Welcome to the forums, kaye! Hope you like it here!:mysmilie_357:

Personally, I think with all the gimmicks, dubious claims, noisy and inappropriately dressed presenters etc. that maybe GemsTV are getting desperate. They can't rely on uniqueness, quality of their goods, good customer service or value anymore, so they have to use these tricks to make a sale. I could be wrong here, but it still doesn't give me a good impression of their business.

Hi Kaye,

I so agree with you about the lack of direction, something that has bothered me for a long time now. The presenters seem to have free rein to say anything they like, and even more worrying I believe they are encouraged rather than directed. xxxxxxxxxxxx

I agree, every time I channel hop and land on Gems TV , I watch another porky being bantered over the screen.
Or should the presenters all be up for nomination for an award for their acting skills and story telling, there is no direction with them and so I wonder how healthy the company is? No many top end pieces coming up and the Lorique page looks pretty sparse?
After Mothers day there is a long summer holiday ahead before the Christmas shopping spree again.....ho hum.

Ali, did look well dressed and fresh last night and was enjoyable to watch , just a shame it was the same same old pieces being flogged.

All IMHO of course.
