Dyson vacuum cleaners have been manufactured in the Far East for around 15 odd years (give or take).

A lot of their employees relocated to Wiltshire to take up job offers only to be made redundant.

I know cost comes into things BUT James Dyson is a multi multi millionaire he didn’t need to do it. Investing in his company and keeping it UK based would have given the brand continuing credibility.

Have we any clues as to what it is! Like the new version of the hairdryer for instance (for the very wealthy amongst us ). I’m not a fan of Mr Dyson. Bragged about being a British brand then moved everything to Asia with the excuse that the Govt had no interest in investing in British businesses and manufacturing costs were too high - like his prices. I suspect they make em cheap and pile em high and then sell at exhorbitant prices. Personall I prefer the Halo Vacuum- it’s ultra light, comes with a load of attachments and two batteries! That isn’t cheap either but it’s far better value. Hey ho. I suspect I’m in a minority with this - people hear the name Dyson and think they’re getting the ultimate in quality and most can’t be dissuaded. I’d rather spend the money I save on something else - like another handbag . Good job we’re all different

Some years back, a local housing estate people buying Dyson upright vacuums for £60 in the box brand new. Seems they fell off the back of a lorry, as the saying goes. I knew one woman in work bought one and complained that the belt kept breaking and having to replace. She even said her neighbours had the same problem, her cheap Tesco own brand did a better job.

I've mentioned in the Shark TSV thread that I've found Gtech products to be better quality all round and they're sustainable.

Yes, the Dyson products look great and seem well-built but they don't last. I'm also miffed by their deliberate choice to make their products in a way that you need to buy new tools every time you buy a vacuum. Shameful waste as fair as I'm concerned. All their bragging about engineering but it boils down to their choice to do this to make more money. Plus they no longer sell the spares you need to do your own repairs

I’d rather go without a vacuum cleaner, hair dryer, hair straighteners or a fan if it meant I had to buy anything by Dyson. They’re far too expensive, although I could afford to buy them, but I’ve got brands that do just as an effective job so I’ll stick to not buying Dyson gadgets and save my money.

Instead of the Dyson vacuum cleaners, I have a Shark anti hair wrap vacuum for upstairs and a GTech Platinum for downstairs. The Shark is heavy but not as bad as a Dyson. The GTech is a lot lighter but does just as good a job as the Shark as it’s also an anti hair wrap model. My ex has had two Dysons and has got rid of them both because they stopped working properly and were cumbersome. He doesn’t enjoy housework at the best of times and lugging the Dyson around made it even worse.

For hair straighteners I use the Eco brand, although I have a few straighteners and hot brushes incase it ever goes wrong. I’ve had them for over eight years and they still work perfectly. I have a Babyliss hair dryer although I recently won a Carmen hair dryer so I’m using that one now.

I have long hair and no split ends and neither of the hair dryers need to be used on the hot setting because both have three heat settings. I use the hair dryer on the medium setting and finish with a cold shot of air.

That’s why I don’t need to spend hundreds of pounds on any of the Dyson products because I have gadgets that do a comparable job. I’m lucky in the fact that I can afford to buy Dyson gadgets but I think they’re overpriced for what they are or do and so I spend my money on other things.

Same here .
I have a Tresseme hairdryer and GHD straighteners,the hairdryer I've had for years and the straighteners I had to buy on our cruise as the ones I had packed up. With my loyalty discount and the reduced price they cost me about £75.
I've got an old hairdryer and straighteners,just in case.
