"My very simplistic definition of a vegetarian, is someone who doesn't eat anything which comes from a creature with a working set of eyes"

Like on "dinerladies". Jean's aunty wouldn't eat anything with a face. Jean had found the same aunty a pair of vegetarian sling-backs!

Brilliant!

If it has fish oil in, it's definitely NOT vegetarian. QVC & diet chef should not be calling it vegetarian. I should think the next time it comes on they would have taken the vegetarian option away...

..I'm not sure about trading standards though it depends if the term "vegetarian" is a legal term, just like some food company's use the term "goodness" which isn't legally definable....certainly though "vegetarian" is morally definable, nothing with any meat/innards/oils etc.

Hee hee:giggle:

Stella McCartney makes great vegan foot and bag wear but it is hellacious expensive!

I like leather shoes and bags,am just not interested in ingesting anything of animal origin.

Well it's been way more than 72 hours and I have still haven't heard diddly squat from QVC,time for a follow up e-mail from me,I think!

Thanks for the reminder, I haven't had a response either. Email time methinks...

I've had a phone call this evening from QVC. They have been in contact with Diet Chef and they have told me that there is definitely no fish oil in the veggie option. They say that the presenter was given the wrong information during the presentation.

Then they need to spell that out loud and clear next time they're on! And make a full apology about it on air!

I hope it was a mistake by the presenter as apart from being very wrong to sneak fish oil into a 'vegetarian' meal it could also be dangerous, my OH is allergic to fish and could therefore have an adverse and possibly serious reaction to any meal with fish oil in.

I had a phone call this evening too. They said the same to me, and also said that the veggie option is completely suitable for vegetarians.

I was then asked if I wanted to order, ermmm no thanks.:cheeky:

Oh,maybe these are the people who have been trying to reach me for the last two evenings and I keep ignoring their calls coz I don't recognize the number.

Wish they'd just respond to me via e-mail,I didn't phone them to voice my complaint,I wrote,so they should reply via that route, rather than using it as an opportunity to follow up with a hard sell.
I wasn't bloody interested in Diet Chef in the first place,am just aggrieved about the misleading ingredients.
Am not buying their bogus explanation by the way.

Different explanation supplied to me...........

I got a different story in response to my complaint - their e-mail said:

"I am happy to confirm that one of the soups which has been included in previous sets of the Diet-Chef has been confirmed as including fish extracts. The vendor has confirmed that this soup should not have been included and was done so in error. To rectify this, the vendor will be sending out replacement soups which are suitable for vegetarians to all affected customers.

The vendor has therefore confirmed that all of the food items now contained in the set are suitable for vegetarians.

I apologise for any inconvenience caused. "

So, one of us has been lied to by QVC - which story (if any) is the truth though?

Deffo wouldn't buy it now if they can't get the story right. They never said anything to me about a soup having it in. They just said it was definitely veggie and that the presenter got it wrong!

The response I finally received, after an age.

Hi Miss ***********

Just a quick update regarding your recent enquiry about our Diet Chef range of products.

As you know, during one of the TV airings our presenter stated that some of the products in the Diet Chef vegetarian hamper contain fish oil. Both Diet Chef and QVC launched an investigation into this statement and discovered that one of the soups, that had been included in one of our previous vegetarian hampers did indeed contain a small amount of fish extract.

Diet Chef have confirmed that this soup ( sweet potato & coconut ) had been included in the hampers in error. To rectify this, we have contacted all customers who purchased the hamper and supplied them with replacement soup.

Now that this error has been corrected we can categorically state that all food items contained in the Diet Chef Vegetarian hampers are suitable for vegetarians.

I would like to thank you for providing such constructive feedback, your comments where much appreciated and instrumental in bringing this error to light.

Very best wishes

Oh only a 'small amount', that must make it ok then! :headbang:

I was panicing when I read this, I have never ordered DC from QVC, but did get a weeks hamper a good while back from DC direct. I read all the ingredients and did not see any fish oils listed, I am a veggie of 22 years, and have not eaten fish for much longer - since I was six! I have not thankfully had the coconut soup, phew!
