Watching the 11pm hour-what has she got on her feet? They look like blue ice skates?

Off piste a bit here. But can any ice skaters out there tell me why the girls in Dancing on Ice pull their tights down over their skates ??? I think it looks much nicer if the boots were left white. (see, the things I worry about)

They're called over the boot tights. They have tapes or hooks etc to keep them in place
Some skaters think it elongates the leg & looks better

....but it does look as if they have forgotten to take off their boots before they put on their tights.

While we're on a similar topic, in the "old days" of Come Dancing on Saturday nights, the women had their dancing shoes dyed to match their dresses - often using car touch-up spray, I gather - but now they are all a gingery sort of colour. Why's that then?

Cos that peachy satin colour and black are the only colours you can buy. I went to a specialist dance shoe shop in Covent Garden (to buy tap shoes) and it was an education to see all the dance shoes on display. Amazingly they have a 'suede' type sole, so lord above knows how many times they have to be replaced.

Was the shop Anello & Davide? In the 70s and 80s I used to visit the branch near Tottenham Court station when I needed plain satin shoes/sandals dyed to match a dress - they were brilliant and, yes, all had suede soles that you had to rough up again when they had worn smoth.

I think it also tones in with the rest of the costume, as if they had bare feet. And imagine how much it would cost if you wanted a pair of skates to match each outfit! When I was little, however, I do remember that all girls wore white boots. Imagine my disappointment the first time I went skating with school, and was handed a brown pair!

how she could wear them for an hour?

SusanGraver mentioned DF's shoes and they had a close-up. Looked like black and blue suede platforms. If HermanMunster would wear sandals, it would be these! Definitely not Hotter or FlyFlots. More like scaffolding. imo x SedatelySnarly

I think so too brissles, I was very into ice skating in my teens & loved my white boots.
