Death by Babyliss ?

PLEASE tell me I'm not the first to have almost been frazzled and died through using the Babyliss spinning brush/dryer ?

Dear Lord, I've just taken delivery, and after washing and towel drying my hair, I decided to use my new time saving hair equipment !

Aaaaaaaagh ! after carefully sectioning my hair, I gingerly introduced it to my head - woarw ! it lunged at my clump of hair with the ferocity of a missile and threw itself against my scalp ! I was so shocked I kept my finger on the button which made it worse, so there I was with hair in all directions and a spinning brush (now stopped) that I had to try and extricate from the tangle - yes I pressed the rewind button and it slowly parted company with my skull. Weapons of mass destruction ? just send a couple of crates of these and all wars will be forgotten - they'll be too busy walking about with lumps of plastic attached to their heads.

Suffice to say I HAVE got the hang of it now, gently spinning whilst drying - both sides of my head look well styled, but the back ? huh a disaster area, so it'll have to be back to the rollers for that bit.

I have a Babyliss, and it was a bit hit and miss when I first used it - still get knots in my hair now and then. The front always looks quite good, but the back could be a lot better. I do like it though - the one I have now is nearly a year old, and has lasted far longer than others I have had.

I've always thought it looked a bit scary. Don't think I'm brave enough as I have enough trouble with a brush lol

Oh brissles, I'm sorry to hear of your troubles, but they did make me giggle!

I have one and LOVE it, but it takes practice. I can do blow dries with flat brushes and round brushes, but this thing just makes it so much damn quicker....after practice!

This might help - When I first got it I'd get my section of hair ready and before I put he brush through I'd check which button I needed to press to make it spin in the way I wanted it! I don't have to do that any more as I just have the "instinct" of which button to press according to which side of my head it is, or what angle I've got it at etc.
Make sure you tak smaller sections than you think you need, and sometimes just little light presses on the button whilst cupping the end hair onto the brush with your other hand guides the ends of the hair into the right curl, then hold the button longer to whizz it up to your scalp.

Also make sure your hair is about 80-90% dry prior to using it, it's a finishing tool really than a blow drier.

Hope that helps! With practice it does no more damage than a full blow dry

I did not get on with the brush it left my hair frizzy,but I love The Curl Secret.

I love mine but it does take getting used to and every now and then it still knots my hair up. I'm pretty good at the back now.

My advice is to tell your hairdresser you're using one. See what he or she thinks. Mine recommended me to get one and actually thins my hair out a bit more now she knows I have one. I have baby fine hair but masses of it and its in a flicky collar length bob. Lots of layers from cheekbone/top of ear down. I flick out the bottom and curl under the top layer. Curling under the top layer with the Babyliss without lots of cutting in makes it too heavy and full.

Yep, I got suckered into one of them too, and the other gadget that sucks in your hair to curl it until it sizzles !!!

All these gadgets, and STILL revert back to huge rollers and a hairdryer !

I have the babyliss. Since I had my hair cut to chin length and layered, it has been much easier to use. I have the original one with only one brush head. No problems with doing the back but I do have long arms being 6ft. I too dry my hair to almost dry and then just use it to style the hair mainly because it takes too long to dry with the babyliss and secondly that I am hoping the motor will last longer.

I love my 'big hair' but agree you need to practice with it. I also have the Tesco own brand brush- it doesn't spin, so gives a less bouffant effect, but I really like the way it leaves my hair shiny and is much easier to use straight out of the box ( it was also only £12.50 with two different sized brushes!)

Years ago I had a Revo-styler (possibly a TSV donkey's years ago), a rotating brush without hot air. It was my favourite hair gadget for years but needed a hairdryer in the other hand so the Big Hair was fabulous by comparison. I still sometimes get into a tangled mess usually when my mind wanders, touchwood I haven't had to cut myself out of it...yet. Reminds me of my DD when she was about 6 she got a wind up toy stuck in her fringe! :emo:

I lost a great chunk from my hair when I first tried this. It got so tangled I had to cut it off. It took me a long time to be brave enough to try again but I got the hang of it after a while without any further mishap. My hair is a bit too long for me to risk it at the moment so it's lurking around somewhere.
