Isn't Zultanite a trade name of Colour Change Diaspore?

Isn't Zultanite is a new trade name of the gemstone Colour Change Diaspore which has been around since 1801. Is Zultanite is just a Diaspore Gemstone , cleverly rebranded by a man who owns all the Turkish mining rights in Turkey

I watched GEMS TV at the weekend , where many presenters said that Gems had the exclusive sole rights to sell Zultanite in the UK.

Didn't I see this Zultanite for sale a few weeks/days ago on another Rocks channel?

According to my information the name Zultanite was introduced by Murat Akgun who had
mining rights in that area. It is a diaspore - hydrated aluminium oxide coloured by
magnesium - and was first faceted as a gemstone in the 1980s. It is 6.5 to 7 on the
MOHs scale, comparable to peridot and tanzanite.

In 2007 the mine owner decided to allow GemsTV exclusive selling rights (see link below) for faceted gemstones. Yes it is Diaspore.

Whether GemsTV still have exclusive rights is debatable. If they do then clearly, like TJC with Tanzanite, they will be selling to other outlets.

As for the channels I don't know who to believe any more, I could have sworn I heard the 'other' rocks channel saying they were the biggest UK buyer/supplier of Zultanite and showed pictures of the owner as if he was a personal friend.
And then Gems claim they are the ONLY UK supplier of Zultanite.

I am sure the small print knows exactly who has the rights and who hasn't , just wish they were all a bit more straight forward with the truth.

Maybe it is time trading standards had a quick peep now and again , so to keep a lid on all these mad exaggerated claims at the moment. LOl :cheeky::cheeky

Like Tanzanite, that doesn't mean that they get it direct from the mine. So, IF GemsTV still have exclusive rights to faceted gemstones then it'll be sold to them and then they sell it on. However, if they don't have the rights anymore then it may be the mine owner has decided to sell to anybody/everybody.

Even when GemsTV had the exclusive right, you could still buy it elsewhere - presumably rough was sold and then faceted by others.

The plot thickens.................Rocks and Co claim they are the biggest buyers of Zultanite, direct from the Turkish mine and Gems are claiming they have sole UK rights.

So I am still confused?

Whoever has the ' rights' as the UK to sell Zultanite, it is in my humble opinion that trading standards need a peek, because it sounds like the jewellery channels are leading us up the garden path to make us believe we are buying something really really really exclusive and rare rare rare rare !!!! " Never to be seen again!"

I believe Murat Agkun appeared on Rocks&Co about 10 days ago during a Zultanite hour and it's not the first time he has visited them. Clearly Gems is not the only place to sell it and if the mine owner is appearing on another channel, their claims have totally confused me too. A little clarification wouldn't go amiss.

So he did Jacqualina and they had some rather fine pieces of Zultanite on offer, large carat weights accompanied by hefty prices. I think John Scott was presenting...not 100% sure. Later in the evening Adina presented a special Zultanite show on Gems1....which I had to give up watching as she (nervously??) stuttered and stammered her way through the presentations. I thought the R&C pieces were richer in their depth of colour!

I am really glad that someone brought this up, as I had been confused too. About two weeks ago I had a peek at the jewellery channel and they were selling zultanite. I had begun to wonder if I had imagined it.

I seem to recall Gems "gave up" the rights to Zultanite quite a while back before Steve and Sarah bought the company back.

So Gems sold their rights to Zultanite ? Yet GEMS presenters are STILL telling their audience they have sole UK rights to be the only Zultanite supplier?.

No shop on the high street would get away with this.

Having no particular interest in Zultanite, I don't pay much attention. However, Liv was presenting one this morning and, although there was rather a lot of name dropping and how they are friends of management, she made no mention at all about any actual rights. Perhaps, given everything that has happened over the last year, the presenters were simply out of date rather than any desire to mislead. This is such particularly dicey territory, I'd be very surprised if any presenters incorrectly (if that is indeed the case) claiming the company has rights would have done so deliberately.

It's high time the shopping channels were properly regulated, and I can't understand how they manage to get away with so much malarkey.

When I was watching (and spending) all those months ago, as well as the usual guff they came out with endlessly, they had also got into the habit of describing each piece as the "best" they had seen. "This is the best ruby we've ever had at Gems"; "I've never seen an apatite of this quality before, I would say this is the best we have ever had here at Gems"; "This is the very best morganite we've ever had at Gems" etc. All meaningless when it's endlessly applied to every ruddy item. And what does it say about the quality of stuff they had before "this piece" if everything that follows, however underwhelming, is so much better? I really can't be doing with it, and they'll be getting no more of my money, and since I bought every week, that's a lot of money, and that's the type of customer that keeps a company going - the regular purchaser, not the one-off buyers, or the occasional customers who dip in and out of all the jewellery channels with no particular loyalty to any one business.

Well, I'd like to know where you got my prized piccy of Lulu from, the one where she's smokin' a fag, just before the application of her wondrous skincare products. It would appear that you have filched from my gaff as well as the unsuccessful raid on Meesh's tanzanite collection. Incidentally, neither fluff nor I were anywhere near the vicinity of Meesh's place when we happened to see you there that night. And fluff is not interested in anyone's tanzy collection, no matter how rare it is. And did you happen to find my safe-opener whilst you were in the house? It's a subtle piece of kit, and looks rather like a slightly deformed Kirby grip. Mind you, so many of us look that way these days. It's the meds, you know.
