I would absolutely make it up if it was 10 years old! Food with best before dates can be eaten years later. I was short on some cocoa for a cake last Christmas and found some right at the back of the cupboard with a best before date of 2007, no probs, we all survived and it tasted fine!

(I perhaps should clear the cupboards out more often...)

This is yet another instance of things we worry about today that we probably didn't worry about in the past. In general, I think dried goods keep very well for far longer than the packets say. I'd rather go by nose and eye than just rely on the sell by date - just like people used to do before products were packed with best before dates on them!

There are loads of reasons why there is so much waste, but one of the culprits has to be the food labelling... and another the lack of domestic science/home economics teaching in schools. There is so little knowledge imparted that people have no longer got the confidence to trust their own senses and common sense.

I remember if we had slightly mouldy things (not completely covered, generally greenish), we would cut or scrape off the mould (jam, marmalade, cheese) but woe-betide if you ate bacon that had got a greenish metallic sheen to it.

Dried stuff is fine. I'm forever taking "fresh" chicken back to the supermarket that is quite frankly "smelling" and it's in date. I eat out of date tinned and packet stuff and I'm still here to tell the tale, although not sure I've had anything for 10 years. If it's not got mould or beasties in it and it doesn't smell "off" then as far as I'm concerned it's safe lol.

I have no sweet teeth in my body so I won't be tempted by the fudge although I may well make some as pressies. Would prefer it nearer Christmas though but they'll most likely do another TSV.

Andik, I think I'll pass on that one, thanks all the same...!!!
You add the butter yourself and that's the thing that's most likely to go bad, so I'd be tempted too, although 10 years ... hmmm.... I made some up that was over a year old recently and it was still lovely. I also made up a pack at Easter that was well in date but the box had been right next to a box of Yankee floral candles and that didn't taste so good. Garden Sweet Pea flavoured fudge, anyone? :puke:

When my nan died in 1980 we found sugar in her cupboard from the war, it was still fine to eat.

How I envy you!

Aaagh! The 'F' word! I've just put 5lb on reading these posts.......:mysmilie_13:

Yum yum yum yum yum ... The picture shows:

Chocolate
Chocolate Orange
Rum Raisin
Red Velvet
Sticky Toffee Pudding
Strawberry
Vanilla x 2
Caramel x 2

Last August's TSV was also 10 packs and was £18.76 + £5.95. If a similar price, will you try it Autumn? Go on, you know you want to.

I am taking way to much interest in this TSV, sorry!

Fair enough. Chocolate Orange would be my least favourite too. The fudge pies are amazing - don't know if they still do them?

Oh we got a stack of this stuff for my son for Christmas, he is a fudge monster, bloody loves the stuff.
Of should I say loved the stuff? This stuff put him off fudge for life. It is so sweet, just looking at it is enough for your teeth to drop out!

Is this it??? Oh disappointed :mysmilie_512:

Not very appealing after all. Too much to hope there will be another one closer to Christmas...
I don't like chocolate flavoured fudge, or rum raisin or red velvet - that's nearly half the pack.

Not sure if there will be a TSV but im sure they will have some "special" priced collections that arent much different in price to the Tsv :)

I was going to say similar. I have bought Calico on non-TSV days for about the same price per pack and in more exciting flavour combinations.

I hope so...
Mind you, for now I've bought the summer pudding collection :mysmilie_5:

1 x New Raspberry Pavlova fudge (400g)
1 x New Lemon meringue fudge (400g)
1 x New Butterscotch (400g)
1 x Vanilla (400g)
1 x Chocolate (400g)
2 x Caramel (400g)
1 x Salted Caramel (400g)
1 x Meringues (50g)
2 x trays
8 x liners
1 x spoon

Nom a nom!

Only the chocolate one I don't really fancy. I might make it up and take it into work! I'm sure the gannets will descend for at least one piece.

I adore fudge although I do try not to buy it because it's one of the few things I simply cannot resist (the other being Doritos I'm ashamed to say! I eat very healthily most of the time!!) Maybe the sealed packs and the fact that I have to actually make it would reduce the temptation?! But to be fair, for the best part of £25 I could buy plenty of Cornish fudge from St. Ives and have it mailed to me! Or just visit thorntons for their toffee and to sample their fudge ;)
