BE foundation help

Haha I'm glad the shop was closed when I read this because I would have got escorted out of the shop by the security, I will hopefully calm down overnight

I understand your feelings MOMAD as I feel the same. I had a 'slow build ' reaction to Bismuth and have been told to permanently avoid contact with this ingredient. I went to Clinique and they were very helpful in helping me manage my skin post-reaction with Redness Solutions skincare and Almost make-up powder. I have been waiting to try this product as I was told it would be better for my sensitive skin! I had told the Clinique SA I cannot tolerate Bismuth so am v shocked that I could have tried this product without knowing. I think the staff need to be aware what is in their products so that customers do not suffer these reactions. I hope you are ok MOMAD and the itching settles down soon.:grin:

I'm sure we are, I have a friend who used to work on a make up counter in Debenhams when she was doing her degree to earn a bit of extra cash (The degree was in sociology BTW, nothing to do with beauty LOL). The only induction she got was to wear more make up and red lipstick (she is naturally very pretty and hardly wears any make up normally). She hated the job and all the slap she had to wear.

Oh and I forgot to add, she had to do 'makeovers' on customers to get them to buy the products, and she had no idea how to apply make up on someone else and just made it up as she went along, no training there either.

I would have thought that knowing the ingredients would be a basic for a beauty salesperson, particularly Clinique - even the name sounds scientific. Sounds like their training is lacking somewhat. For some people I suppose it's just a job, they just think of their commission. But that is no good in the skincare business when people are sensitive to certain ingredients. Have you thought of emailing Clinique, momad?

My local Clarins rep has left, she said she loved the products and she knew them inside out but she was bored and there was little prospect of a promotion so she's gone to work for a large chain of shops, I think, where there is more of a career path.

I emailed them as soon as I read Jabbas post, saying that I can't believe they have bismuth in their foundation when I specifically told the rep that I was allergic to it. The good thing about buying from Clinique is you can get a refund if you don't like their products but my gripe is I was pretty happy with my skin until i was given a product when the rep was well aware of my allergy and now I can't stop scratching my face even though I've washed it off. It's back to the drawing board searching for that hero foundation again :thinking2:

I feel for you momad, my roseacea has been v embarassing for me over the years. I'm sticking to what I know - the last of my BE and then Lily Lolo (no bismuth). Hope you feel better soon.

Hi everyone.

I have been following this thread with interest. I posted a thread a few weeks ago about bismuth and the effects it can have on sensative skin. The reason I said it was contained in most mineral foundations (but not all) is because bismuth oxychloride is put into mineral make up to make the make up 'stick' (stay on) the face, it also means they can add the sparkley bits into it.

Since I found out about bismuth I have continued to use liquid foundation (clinique repairwear) have found this to be very moisturising and best suited to my skin, although eveyones skin is different and what suits one person might cause a reaction in another. I am just so glad I foud out obout bismuth and sent my BE tsv back before trying it and having a reaction to it!!!

I am really angry now, when I bought this I told the Clinique rep that I didn't get on with BE because of the bismuth and now I find out it has it too :angry: The strange thing is before reading this the sides of my face started to itch this morning and I couldn't think why, I am returning it tomoz and the rep is going to get an earful. I told her I use an AHA and she said to me what's AHA :doh: I think the most of us on here are more clued up than these so called beauty experts :dull:

Will you let me know how you get on momad :?: Might be worth pointing out that it seems to be a UK wide ignorance of ingredients as the SA I spoke with argued that Clinique wouldnt put an ingredient in if it caused reaction because all the products are ALLERGY TESTED.....................:fume: JEEZ what a useless terminology that is :fume:

Long ago Marie Clare used to issue a health and beauty magazine every quarter. I still miss it thought it disappeared late ninties. Sad I used to keep my old issues forever.

Anyway I remember an article looking at different brands and their sa. The Clinique sa had to wear 9 items of makeup each day to work.

I have friends who work for a very well known department store begins with a D.
They all work in the cosmetic department by the way. The main thing they must do everyday is push the store card. Really, one works for YSL and gets talks at meeting and its all about pushing the store card. Terms like your jobs might be at risk if the store targets are not met. They are told each week how many cards they must sell to customers. At one point they had a chart up in the staff area showing how many cards had been sold that week and who had done it.

You think the sa is there to sell high end cosmetics and help customers. Er, not really its all about pushing the store card.

The SA was very stroppy with me when I took it back and I asked her why she sold it to me when I had explained to her my allergy, she had the audacity to tell me it's last on the list of ingredients so she didn't think it would be a problem :headbang: I took a refund and told her I had gave her name to her Head Office she didn't seem at all bothered.

So it doesn't contain bismuth then i only ask as i've been using it for 12 months and its fine on my face and just under my jawline but if i blend it to far down and get it on my neck it itches like mad and comes up in red lumps!

You just never know, gemcherub. As I said on another thread, I don't get spots but when I tried a couple of neck creams, including the Gatineau one, I got a spotty neck.

My Barefaced Beauty mineral samples arrived today, so if anyone's interested I'll let you know. No bismuth as far as I can tell but I'll probably try it at the weekend in case my face explodes :thinking2:

nearly everyone reacts to bismouth oxychloride mainly when you sweat or get hot. funnily enough i have got used to it and my daughter has but we dont have sensitive skin.
