Has anybody got one of these pilates machines and use it regularly], I bought one of ebay but it is gathering dust in the corner I think I will have to start in the new year to shape myself up...

I won't be buying it. I have wasted more money than I care to think on exercise machines that have been, gone and done little good. I'll carry on with the walking - it's free!

I got mine from eBay a few years ago. Mines also gathering dust, can't even remember when I last used it. My Son was the last one to use the cardio on it, he blames it for a stress fracture in his foot. I too need to get back on it.

I love my pilates machine. As I live alone I've put the 2 arm chairs in the spare room and it stays set up. 4pm DOND was pilates time at least 3 times a week. I struggle doing normal exercise as I've got 4 curvatures in my spine with the top one in my neck compressing my spine. I find this so much easier than normal exercise as I'm fully supported. Although, I will say that I struggled to use it before I got the stand and head pillow. It helped me lose over a stone in weight a couple of years ago when they needed to take a bit out of my neck and put a carbon cage in instead. Looking forward to using it again in the new year as I haven't been able to for the last few months due to health issues. You are definitely more likely to use it if you leave it set up. My biggest problem when using it, is the 2 cats fighting over who will ride on my belly!

Another one here rubyrat, I keep falling over the thing when I'm cleaning:) Perhaps this upcoming TSV will get me in the mood for some New Year exercise!

I like the idea of these aero pilates machines but don't have the room for one. I got one of them vibro power machines of Ideal World last year and although it is good and quick to use it is also gathering dust. I really need to get back on it after Christmas.

Haven't room for any exercise machine so can't be tempted but if I did have room, maybe ... Marjolein's peep-hole top is not a good look, so I won't be tempted to get one of those, either.

I can't claim to know much about all types of exercise but have prescribed pilates moves to help with hypermobility syndrome and mostly the preferred foot position if flexed -- creating a right-angle at the ankle. Watching Julia in the TSV launch her pointed toes stuck out like a sore ... big toe!

I don't know whether anyone here knows this but Julia used to be dancer  but watching her pointy toes is making my ham-strings shorten! We get it Ju, you can point your toes! :ninja: But it looks weird and just a tad affected Love! :mysmilie_13:

Crumbs it's a bit pricey isn't it. Can't understand why people buy this stuff, you could go to a pilates class or cheaper still buy a good pilates DVD. All you need is a mat.

Having done both I can say that a machine is SO much better than mat classes or trying to do it at home on a mat. The machine ensures you're doing it correctly and that you're balanced. With just a mat it's very easy to emphasise one side more than the other which defeats the entire object of pilates. Also the classes are now so expensive that you pay for a machine several times over if you go to the classes regularly. Having a machine, certainly in my case, also means I'm far more likely to do it - there's no way I'm going to regularly get up the enthusiasm and energy to actually trail out to classes, but I can always find a bit of time and incentive when all I have to do is walk into the room next door. It also means I don't have to find an hour at a specific time, I can use the odd 15 or 20 minutes at any time of the day or night. Personally I also much prefer the peace of using the machine at home rather than having to contend with a classful of other (often noisy) people. My machine was worth every penny.

Two factors are preventing me from going for one of these machines : 1. Having to put it together. 2. Space it would take in the house. I am underweight, so would use the machine for health benefits. Also, I am sceptical as to whether a machine is really necessary to perform pilates.
