Brilliant, llloyd. You've now done the breakdown for both my front-runners (M&S and Lookfantastic) so I'm very grateful.

I'll be popping over to my M&S tomorrow when the advent calendar is released.

You are most welcome, hope you enjoy them both. I am tempted but still have last years Decleor one to open.

It’s not one of the most upmarket advent calendars this year in terms of value and brands, but Boots have a Macmillan one which is currently £30 instead of £40. And a couple of quid goes to charity. Oh, and if you spend another £20 so £50 total in store (£60 online) this weekend, you’ll get £10 of Advantage points.

Just had a look.

Not a bad little calendar at all. On face value it doesn't look worth £40. £30 is much more realistic.

Don't need howevs, not buying.

I confess I bought it yesterday because I figured £30 less £2 to charity = £28 and then I wanted a few bits and bobs anyway (also on good offers as it happened) so I spent just over £50 and got the £10 of points .. £12 actually as there was an extra 200 points bonus for something on my card I didn't even know about! So I feel I paid £16! That's how I reasoned it anyway.

:clapping:

I see the M&S one has sold out online. I am going to Kingston tomorrow and need a couple of things from there. Will I manage to hold out I wonder? I caved in last year! Is it more expensive this year?

At the risk of sounding like I have rather an unhealthy interest in the M&S advent calendar and know too much about it, last year it was £35 with a £35 spend and the contents were said to be worth about £250; this year it’s £40 but you only have to spend £25 to get it for that and the contents are valued at £300.

Last year they sold out quickly and I missed it (until my local store got a couple more in and one of the lovely assistants had taken my number to let me know if this happened so it was put aside for me). The reason I hadn’t bought it in the first few days was I’m too mean to pay full price for the clothes so was waiting for an offer and didn’t see one. This year, I’ve got 20% off tops and jumpers (etc) on my Sparks card so I went and got one straight away. Yesterday, they still had quite a lot left around the shop.

Thanks Andi. I am very glad of your interest in the M&S calendar as I was unaware they existed, or rather were such good value until you wrote about them last year. I saved it until Christmas Day and opened them all in the morning!

Thanks for posting this Andi. I have been looking at a few beauty advent calenders and this one has most of what I would like to try and some travel sizes of items that I already use, so better value for me. I collected one today from my local Boots.

That sounds like fun. I might do the same as I don’t get many Christmas presents to open  and I have the cheaper Macmillan calendar from Boots I can open over Advent (or the other way round).

Yay! It is better than I first thought, actually. I will use most if not all of the bits and pieces.

Gosh they are pricey!!! But a very interesting read. I got the M&S one today as luckily I wanted some PJs but it still felt a lot of money. Still I'm sure it will be fabulous and I shall save it until Christmas morning as I dont have family so it will be like getting a load of presents. Of the others I wouldn't mind the Nuxe one as I do like their mask and lip balm so trying a few other bits would be interesting. I shant be buying it though!

Well done for getting your M&S calendar - and ideal as you also wanted Pj's.

I got the Latest in Beauty/ You calendar last year as a treat to myself! It had some really good things in it. Saved some to gift! (Helped pay for the £50 calendar..!)

I'm so sorry you don't have family, that's really sad and I hope you don't get too lonely especially around Christmas :(
Hope it will be nice to open the bits from the calendar and have a lovely quiet day of doing whatever you want to do! ;)

And I feel your pain, as I'm housebound and poorly so although I do have family (well mum and my bro and his family), I'm usually too ill or see them or anyone.

Think I may plan not to and just try to rest on the day this year, as last year was awful trying to arrange it and then not being up to having guests. Plus my mum had pneumonia, anniversary of my dad's death - followed shortly by my 40th birthday! Oh dear! ;)

Ooh, I feel a cosy Christmas day with a lot of pampering going on & eating Christmas treats whenever you wish. Opening your calendar on Christmas day is a lovely idea & I do hope you have a special day doing what YOU want to do. I have got images in my head now of you wearing a face mask whilst cooking your lunch!

Loathe as I am to look at let alone share anything related to the Daily Fail, You magazine (found it online) has just done a VERY comprehensive piece on Advent calendars...
There are beauty plus jewellery and food, wine etc ones featured, although some are SO expensive they'd make your eyes water..!

I'm with you on the Daily Fail. I call it the Daily Hate. Mr B Obviously reads the Guardian - People would point if we had the Socialist worker delivered.

Note to self : Set aside time to wind up Mr B tomorrow about 'Red' stuff. Haaaaaa

Haha! When my brother first got married, that was the first time I witnessed people (his in-laws..), actually reading the Daily Fail as a “news”-paper (that or the Express - argh!) ;)
As good Guardian-reading lefties, many a time had to bite our tongues! Once I got to know them better, could tease them more freely.

I eventually gave up on regular Guardian reading as it too can live up to its own cliches a lot of the time, so now like to vary between it, the Indy and The Times for some variety...!

(Hope you had fun winding up the Hubby!)
