Today I received the Oakcastle portable DVD player, been waiting weeks for it as it was on AO and even that was almost 2 weeks after the promised date.

I was really looking forward to it, but as soon as I put a disk in and turned it on I discovered that the noise from the motor was annoyingly loud. In fact, it was as loud as the maximum sound from the speakers! I also tried it with headphones, and I could still hear the motor.

But then I discovered the screen was dreadful. It was OKish if you were DIRECTLY in front of it, but the slightest tilt of the screen changed it from OKish to either very bright and washed out, or very dark and unwatchable. This used to be a problem with early LED screens of about 20 years ago.

So I rang QVC within a couple of hours of receiving it to arrange a free return.

And this morning I packed it all up eady to go back, which took the best part of an hour.

BTW when I bought it the PP was free, now it is £5-95 !

PS I've just noticed it was supposed to come with headphones, but it didn't.

That doesn't sound like a good experience.

I wonder if the one you got was overly noisy or if they are all like it.
That's what I was wondering too.

But the screen would be the same, and THAT was the dealbreaker, you can hardly move your head before the picture degrades (moving your head up and sown has the same effect as tilting the screen).

I've just watched 2 presentations of JBL headphones, one from yesterday, one from today, with the SAME BA.

When he was demoing the OVER-EAR headphones, he said he much preferred that type.

When he was demoing the ON-EAR headphones, he said he much preferred that type.

Can you belive anything they say?

They must have known how bad the screen was when demoing the DVD player, in regard to its viewing angle, but, of course, no mention of this.

Thought it was only IW that flip flopped from loving one thing to another.

Corded vs Cordless vacuum is a favourite over there.

You would assume so, unless they only viewed it head on.

I've got a pair of jbl head phones they were really cheap - they're the ones that go over your head, nothing fancy - non wireless and I think they cost me less than £25 but the sound from them is amazing! The Dvd player that you bought looks a lot bigger than most portable players it's a shame it was rubbish but what I read in the blurb it was a pair of kid's headphones that were supposed to be included so I doubt they'd have been much cop anyway. Shame it wasn't fit for purpose though and glad you got the return sorted out with no hassle!

I re-watched the presentation, they were careful with the screen angles, because one was in a fixed postion and looked good, the one Lee was messing around with you could tell WITH HINDSIGHT that it didn't seem so good.

Also, they did not mention the headphones being included, but it was in the blurb as bundled in, probably part of a different deal and never altered since.

PS I've just remembered that hidden away somewhere in Strato Towers I have an original Playstation One. I think that plays DVDs and has a 6 inch screen, I must try to find it.

QVC posted the review I wrote, even though it is no loner available.

So there three 1-star and one 5-star.

I must admit you get more useful information from a one star review than a five star review. Don't get me wrong I do look at the good reviews, but I want to know the downsides and to see whether any possible issues with a product that I've been concerned about are mentioned.

.......and yes! I have saved myself some money today by doing just that. I was interested in the supergreens supplement as I thought it would do me good, yes I was put off by the price a bit, but I thought it might be worth giving the system a bit of a boost for 8 weeks over the winter. I looked at the reviews, there were 6 x five star, 6 spread over 3 and 4 star and 6 x1 star. I looked at the 1 star reviews first , most said it made them feel nauseous, two people actually threw up after drinking it, so I decided there and then I wasn't gonna take the chance. Confusingly even the higher reviews mentioned how unpleasant it was, one mentioned that it contained artificial sweetener and when I checked the ingredients list I found it was Sorbitol to which I have quite an intolerance. So yep, money and guts (both ends) saved!

I always read the reviews before buying something, whether it’s on QVC or another site because it saves returning something if the reviews are poor. I was thinking about buying a 3 piece set from Cozee Home as it was on clearance so I could apply the Sale20 code. I had it in my basket but didn’t order it, but opened another tab and checked the reviews. Having read them I logged out as most had commented on the fact that the bedding creased which none of my other CH bedding sets don’t.

I did however look at a Centigrade faux leather jacket on clearance, read the reviews and ordered it, using the code. It’s already been dispatched although it’ll obviously be delayed in the Evri warehouse because of the Christmas break.
