The sizes are really piddly. But they seem to be like that with all the TSV's from this range maybe even regular sizes. The problem with 30ml sold as full sizes is the compulsion to try and get ever last ml out of the teeny tiny package and thats anather irritation for anather post!

Not too bad if it comes in a jar but tubes no. When I get to the “end” of a tube, I cut the bottom off and seal with a bulldog clip. When I’ve got out as much as I can, one side is slit. I believe in getting my moneys worth! Gotta least a week’s worth of product out that way.

A woman after my own heart! In the case of big plastic bottles of body lotion where the product won’t all come out even when you stand it upside down, I have been known to saw the bottle in half with a serrated bread knife, scoop the cream out and decant it into an empty face cream jar. I say “ have been known to” but I do it all the time. We must save £££££.

when a lipstick get down to the metal, I use a lip brush to get the remainder out. Usually get a good months worth out by doing this.

👏 Likewise!! I don’t know if you’ve tried this, but I managed to prise off the top bit of a pump bottle of Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish once. It took some doing (don’t know if they’ve changed the packaging now) but it was a waste of time because the inside was completely clean, dry even! Amazing economy!

How much more can we embarrass ourselves? Actually I wouldn’t tell all my neighbours but I’m not really ashamed of all the money I’m (we’re) saving.

I found that with toothpaste in a pump bottle. I was told about the lipstick by a sales lady in the beauty department in the A&N stores in London back n the 1970s.

Another bugbear is the amount of yoghurt left in the pots. I use a small spatula that allows you to get the whole lot out🤣

We should have a new thread on here, headed Penny-Pinching Tips or Waste Not, Want Not or something.

In the days when people used bars of soap, we always stuck the last sliver of the old bar onto the new one.

In fact, Pears soap (anyone remember that, it was transparent) actually ENCOURAGED it, explaining that was what the hollow in the soap was for.

I never dilute things like shower gel to get the dregs out, instead I put a funnel into the new bottle then turn the old one upside down into the funnel. Sometimes it takes hours to drain out, but eventually there is no waste at all.

And I cut open toothpaste tubes and can get a few days use out of what is stuck inside.

Also, when I boil a kettle, I put any surplus water into a vacuum flask, which keeps hot ebough for most uses, or I can pour it back into the ketle to reheat, it stays hot for about 10 hours or more and saves a lot of electricity. I don't heat up more than necessary, but you have to fill it to the minimum level, which is more than a mug full for making tea etc.

Wow! You can be overlord of the new penny-pincher thread!

Poor old Sunday Riley, wondering how far she’s fallen when a thread dedicated to her premium wares has descended into a discussion of how to scrape out your yoghurt pot and the best way to extract the last millilitre from a bottle of Lynx shower gel using the inversion and funnel technique.

I definitely will not explain how to recycle used toilet paper then lol

Pear's Soap is still around and found in chemists. A few years back it was going to be discontinued but a massive outrage, and it is still going.

Strato, buy good quality toilet paper, and you use less of it.
I did buy the thickest most luxurious I could find, Andrex SUPREME QUILTS but it was so thick it kept blocking the loo.

When toothpaste and creams came in metal tubes many years ago you could easily fold over and flatten to extract every last drop. We used to use the key that came with the Fray Bentos corned beef, fold a bit of the tube over and roll it down.
Hmm might try it with a plastic tube ,well I would if we bought tinned processed meats.🤔

I found some of these keys on eBay -and use them for the tomato purée tubes
