The Peter Simon Tent Dress looks quirky enough….

Having read through earlier posts I want to say that I didn’t join this forum to talk or listen to people’s political views.
I joined to join in the banter and many truths about ‘most’ of these greasy, slimy, disingenuous so called presenters.

I understand they can only sell what’s in front of them and that is their job, their bread and butter BUT it’s HOW they sell the ‘Products’ (I use that term loosely).

They are misleading and pressurising the elderly, needy and vulnerable as has been said many many times on here . You know, the price comparisons(not) and the ‘flying out’ ‘will sell out’ tactics they employ.
I really don’t know how they sleep at night, and yes MASON I’m talking about people like you!

I know they read this forum,it’s so obvious.

Masons latest tactic is to ‘just buy it and if not suitable send it back ‘. Yes of course, and Ideal World will al least have made some dosh on the postage if nowt else and also the folk who can’t be bothered to return a £5.99 item..

I did notice that Mason didn’t use so much bluster as he used to I.e lines in meltdown, people gone bonkers etc..but as I say changed tactics..

Rant over,
I am just now waiting for the inevitable Xmas tat and especially Masons epic presentation of the adorable ‘Sneezy Panda’🤣🤮.. you may remember on his demonstration it didn’t sneeze! 🤣🤣..
I can’t recall his excuse but there would have been one. Sleep well Mr Mason!

I have a video of that failed demonstration somewhere. It was a classic. And as much of a moron Mike is — and I mean he really is — he didn't on that occasion do his usual "it's a demo model that's non-operational" spiel like he does when the watches or tech products don't work.

My geography isn’t good is Mykonos a real place
Yes, a Greek island popular

I seem to remember Pedro going into raptures over the sneezy Panda, and the crystal bear. We have all that to look forward to. 'Tis the season to be jolly after all. 🤣🤣. And you are right, politics and religion have no place on our forum. We are all entitled to our own opinions, best kept to ourselves.

Don't despair Prof, the vast majority would agree with you and admire the independent way you've lived you life as many of us have striven to.

I had a lengthy debate earlier with Phaed and we sort of called it quits but he's popped up again with his stats which prove nothing. Fact is a lot of innocent pensioners will suffer as a result of this dastardly policy from a Labour - a LABOUR - (as Neil Kinnock once repeated) government.

I would prefer that wealthy types got an extra bung to spend on fine wine than to cut the winter fuel allowance of many many poorer pensioners. But they could easily have means tested it if they wanted to. They are a rotten lot.

Talking of which is Pete the Cheat coming back to IW? I know we all marvel at his ineptitude but maybe it's time they dumped the old fraud for good.
My *only* initial point was that WFP should be means-tested.
Not given to all pensioners, irrespective of income. As so many Pensioners don't need it. But a good 25% probably do!

Please tell me what the threshold should be? £125,140? £50,271? £25kp/a? £12,571 p/a?
The first 2 and latter are the additional, higher and lower rate tax bands.

PC threshold for WFP and TV licence is £218.15 * 52= £11,344

Like I said, they could use the tax system to set a higher threshold more easily without a costly means test scheme.

I only replied to @Professor Branestawm because of his unfair singling out of specific groups, as perceived attacks against them, when it is for all Pensioners, except the PC level.
There also seems to be a 'the government owes 'me'' attitude from the vox pop lady, who obviously doesn't need the WFP but thinks they should pay her "because I've been working all my life", this entitlement attitude.
I didn't accuse @ProfB of not working or doing enough ot anything!
Sorry he took it personally.

@Duke of Cheese Agreed, our NHS is creaking, Social, welfare, services are all stretched and underperforming.
My mother was on a corridor bed at A&E for 8 hours before a cubicle became available, but her care and staff were good.

What's your solution?

How do you put more money in while lowering the annual deficit of £120billion. Yes billion.

And paying off the National Debt of £2.7trillion? Yes, trillion. £2,700Billion

And the £102billion interest annually on that debt.

But I still want my WFP.
And the NHS better.
And better schools, social care, defence, etc

So the WFP cut is a drop in the ocean. So best not to affect poorer pensioners, it's only £3bn saving. Fine.

"When the government spends more than it receives in tax and other revenues it borrows to cover the difference. This borrowing is known as ‘public sector net borrowing’ but is often referred to as the deficit.

In the financial year 2023/24, government revenue – from taxes and other receipts – was £1,096 billion (£1.1 trillion) while government spending was £1,217 billion (£1.2 trillion). The deficit was therefore £120 billion, equivalent to 4.4% of GDP.

At 4.4% of GDP, the deficit was the UK’s eighteenth largest since 1948."

Tax the billionaires and millionaires and higher rates tax payers only? Even more than the 40% and 45% already paid?
Not enough.

BBC News - How does government borrowing work?

How much interest does the government pay on its borrowing?
Interest payments on government’s past borrowing are a relatively big cost for government. In 2023/24, government’s net debt interest spending was £102 billion, which is equivalent to 3.8% of GDP or 8.4% of government spending

I won't comment on this/WFP again here. Done.

Ok, Back to Pensioners/others and their IW buying habits...

I only wish I’d hit the ignore button sooner.
Do you never stop?
Take a long hard look at yourself.

And now…ignore.

Well this went well! 😁

I would have stopped, before your post that I felt I had to respond.

@Jazzydrury is totally misrepresenting our discussions. I pointed out the their/there spelling errors very early on, offline, before I knew of their conditions and never kept criticising beyond saying once try learning the difference at the time, it might help, and have never commented or criticised since.

I recognise that many on here are pensioners and/or have health /limiting issues. Like me.

FWIW I am not a pensioner quite yet and probably won't live long enough to 'enjoy' it with my issues, but the lack of reality exhibited here, the state of the population, of the finances and personalisation of issues, surprises me.

Fine, take offence, if you like, from someone who has a slightly different point of view, but I have neither attacked you, nor been rude or offensive to anyone and only discussed the facts and issues. As I see it and from quoted sources.

The Few Good Men quote, 'you can't handle the truth' springs to mind, but it's more like 'you don't want to know the truth'.

Now, I wonder who is buying all the IW tat...

@Scraping the barrel Apologies, I can't remember who first introduced that topic, me or other and realise it's not the best forum to discuss and elaborate and will desist forthwith.
But multiple topics are usually handled simultaneously very well and we just respond to those that are of interest!

Just fyi: IW, like TJC, include a pre-printed RM postage sticker (Tracked 24). They deduct that, £3.99 usually, from the return credit. But if you use alternative postage, e.g. cheaper 2nd class you can save p&p money.

You can get home pickup with the pre-printed label on RM site using it's tracking ref, provided it covers the cost for your size/weight of package.
Or you can pay and book collection for alternate postage tariffs.
