I don’t believe a shopping channel should be selling what they view as a disability aid in the manner they do. I don’t believe presenters giving anecdotal claims about how the cane has or would have helped them is satisfactory. I also don’t believe presenters feigning a ‘limping’ or shambling, or feeble looking gait when using the cane to demonstrate it is acceptable either. The previous Ideal World used to feature disability aids on a semi-regular basis. The difference was for the Luggie presentations they used video evidence from actual disabled users, using the product, and invited somebody actively involved in selling these outside of television presentation as a guest. The way this cane has been relentlessly marketed on the new version, and very much as a tool for the elderly, disabled or both, but with absolutely no direct input whatsoever from disabled users, is absolutely unacceptable. The scaremongering scenarios equally so. You imagine, based on these, had they got the Luggie mobility scooter to sell, they would stick a presenter in one and have them doing handbrake turns around the studio in it.

This is a very well put point. It is through pure ignorance (and lack of effort) that the producers don't do more to provide helpful information instead of what pops into the presenters' heads. Like it is some kind of improv session. Here's an object, how many things could you do with it? Audience members (the gallery) shout out suggestions

I was 14 when I had a severe Stroke at school. Which has left me with major physical issues still 30 years later, My Voice is back to how it was, but only have one fully working hand, and can barely walk, symptoms are very CP like

I find disgusting and upsetting, when they present that cane, and pretend they have a limp. They don’t have a flipping clue, and they way they make it out to be a fashion accessory, it personally angers me more than there usual crapping on, they havent a clue

Wish I could have used a cane to go clubbing, rather than being stuck at home, crying hearing others come back in from a night out

Whenever they say things like 'used by healthcare ... used by councils' etc, I'd love to know just how many healthcare places (NHS and private) and just how many councils do procure the products in question.

I'm just waiting on them saying it's used by pro climbers e.g. when scaling Mount Everest and the like.

They appear probably unknowingly to follow the Medical Model of disability where imposed interventions (get your 'disabled' this cane to help them up the steep steps to the shopping centre) to 'cure' disabled people with no direct user involvement in the process, rather than the Social Model where you lower the f*"*ing steps...

I’m with you 100% any aid we couldn’t get from the nhs for free we bought from a mobility shop so we could get advice and know it was safe. The idea that someone might get drawn in and buy the Blummin stick for their elderly granny is frankly horrifying

Queen of the hysterical price comparison. Obviously realising you can say with complete impunity that you and she would pay £160 in a mythical garden centre for four tacky looking mini-Christmas trees they are selling for £14.99 each. Also appears to link every item to a family member of various types...My son..my aunt...my grannie..her grannie..my Bronze Age grannie...It's a pity, because from her untainted beginnings she came over as a reasonable seller in style.
