Can I say a big thankyou to Jamie for bringing this to auction on friday, apologies for the pic quality but the camera on my blackberry is pants.
After the palava with my first yellow kunzite, this has just blown me away
Its 10x8, 3.55ct weight and just sparkles when the light hits it and simmers beautifully when dulled. and all for the fab price of £61
After the bad run I had with rocks, my faith has been restored with this beauty.

Fab price too rebecca - I got a couple when they first came out on Rocks and I know I paid a lot more for a similar ring. Well done!

Thank you for your lovely comments, im now wearing it as my engagement ring, cant wait to get my home internet back up and running, im missing my rocks fix :)

Rebecca - crack open the bubbly cos we need more piccies!

It looks very pretty but please be careful because Kunzite is a soft stone and if you wear it every day you need to treat it gently!

It's lovely and Kunzite has a hardness which is fairly good, between 6.5 and 7 on the Mohs scale. However this gem has perfect cleavage which means if you knock it it may fracture quite easily and cleanly - also be careful as kunzite can fade when exposed to sunlight which is why it is sometimes called "the evening stone".

Anjo - what the ICA don't say is that "fairly good" is relative. If you ask any expert they will tell you that the only gems suitable for everyday wear are a 9 and above on the MOHS scale - which very much limits jewellery wearing! Whilst "fairly good" may sound substantial, Apatite which is a 5.5 is the same hardness as glass. A 7 on the MOHS scale equates to a pen knife. That sounds hard and durable but it's not as facets wear away, cleavage plays a part etc. Add in treatments (that can weaken gemstones) and it's not a clear picture at all.

You may find both the following interesting. I'm a great believer in wearing jewellery to make you happy but it's wise to know that care should be taken with most gemstones.

very interesting - thanks. Additionally most jewellers will tell you anything about Mohn's 7 and above is considered suitable for daily wear but as you say it's all relative - depends on settings, what you get up to in your daily life etc (jewellery wise I would suggest nothing if you mountaineer, but bring on the bling if you are lucky enough to be a lady of leisure ................)
