What happened to wigs and hair pieces?

I have a vague memory of Pippa wearing a wig on a "fashion" show a while back and saying they were going to be selling them in October. Have I missed this, did I imagine it in some feverish dream or have the overlords at QVC towers decided not to delight and enchant us with a selection of alternative hair styles. Anyone else recall Pippa with long hair?

Sooper. Are they like those daft looking ones that are on when I flick through the channels and happen across Ideal World? It always amuses me - I've never yet come across anyone that tells you their hair colour is 'butter' or 'toast' or some other equally bizarrely named shade of extension that the Mick Hucknall 80s lookalike is trying to flog?

"Yes mrs hairdresser, when I leave - I'd like my hair a nice shade of butter please if you don't mind". Eh????? "Well I thought it could match my 'buttery soft' QVC handbag but if you haven't got butter - toast will do just as well"........

I thought it was just me that hates the butter/buttery soft thing. It drives me nuts. The only things that should be buttery are crumpets and veggies and such like.

Oh my goodness - what is that? Is he modelling himself on a Barbie Ken? What a strange looking fellow! Not the sort of chap I'd want hair advice from, I have to say. Phil Kingsley might be half asleep but at least he doesn't put me off my tea (although I can't say the same for his 'friend' who I do find to be a bit odd).

I thought it was just me that hates the butter/buttery soft thing. It drives me nuts. The only things that should be buttery are crumpets and veggies and such like.

It's not just us that think it's a stupid saying - I always remember laughing my socks off at this post from AllThatGlitters. It appealed to my sense of humour.

'Buttery soft'. Used for handbags, garments and sundry other things. What does it mean? What property of butter would be an attractive feature in a leather handbag?

It seems that the channels market the items primarily as fashion and as usual they're getting it way wrong. I know for people who feel wigs are a necessity it should be better presented and a better product tbh. The shopping channels just never seem to get it right about some things.

I think the key is that its going under the banner of 'fashion' - no-one would dream of making fun of wigs that were designed for a more serious purpose and having suffered from stress related alopecia a number of years ago, I can understand how traumatic it is to go through any form of hair loss. The banter is in the description/selling of a perceived fashion item? There is no desire to offend.

I have a couple of the hair scrunchies from Ideal World and I absolutely love them. I do have long hair but I use them for speed when I can't be bothered to do anything, just put my hair in a bun and skewer the hair scrunchie onto it, instant perfect hairdo.

Oh no wait for the celebrity bashing in this hour! Ken Paves is actually (a little of AY there) fairly famous in hollywood (along with QVC, hollywood gossip is my other speciality subject!) He is hairdresser and best friend to Jessica Simpson and has been on Oprah and stuff like that. In fact he created a line of hairpieces with Jessica Simpson which I believe were on IW not so long ago.

He does look a bit odd, I think he may be of a latino background but has blondish hair which is why he doesn't quite look "right" if you see what I mean (without trying to offend anyone)

i dunno, i just got a mental image of someone who felt really bad about themselves because of some hair related problem, looking at this as a kind of lifeline. some of the wigs you see people wearing, i assume provided by the NHS amongst others, are really awful, and being able to see how something looks actually being worn would, i imagine, be useful.

Been there twice about hair and sadly never really got back what was something half right about me. :emo:
I have seen the bog standard wigs offered to people and they're awful and extremely uncomfortable, just great when the person is already suffering.
A decent wig can make the world of difference to someone and they deserve proper care and attention from the vendor imo.
I assumed the range on qvc is to be marketed as fashion, if they are going to specialise in products for people who feel they need a wig I would hope they handle it in a professional but upbeat manner.
Perhaps the idea wigs are for everyone might be a good thing, nobody should feel self conscious about hair loss but it's hard not to.

A couple of years ago all my hair started breaking off because of too much straightening, it go so bad that it was only a couple of inches long on the top and was completely ruined. I was distraught and went to Philip Kingsley who for £250 told me not to put so much heat on it and to have more iron in my diet. (what a bargain)
in the end i had to wear a wig for the best part of 6 months until my hair grew back, My hairdresser was fantastic and mananged to get a human hair wig for me and highlighted it and cut it as near to my normal hair as possible.
I was still devestated and very self conscious but the wig was so good all i ever got was compliments about how fab my hair looked. I only ever told two people it was actually a wig.

Luckily now thanks to a lack of straightening irons and every ojon product going my own hair is now shiny and healthy.

My point is if you are having to wear wig due to illness or problems with hair like mine, you want a decent choice of quality products so that at a time when you are feeling at your lowest you can at least have some confidence. I really hope qvc provide some good quality products and treat the issue sensitively.
