Vacuum cleaner nervous breakdown -- Please recommend!

Hey folks Its been absolutely ages since I visited here -- hope you are all well
I require professional advice regarding vacuum cleaners

This month has been a crazy, odd month to do with vacuums in my household

Firstly my Dyson handheld stopped charging, an older model, but on its 3rd battery
That was OK as I have two wired appliances - an Oreck and a Vax
However, the Vax blew up last week (whilst I was doing the stairs and nearly threw me down them at the onset of the huge bang)
Wait for it.. then the Oreck decided to get itself a 'twiddly lead' (works if I hold the lead above my head, but doesn't if it falls normally) So regarding vacuums, its been mega stressful

So cutting to the Chase, (and why Im posting here) I ordered from QVC item number 807881
Shark Powered Lift-Away True Pet DuoClean Vacuum Cleaner. a whopping £300, plus the cheek to add £9 postage. I thought this appliance is going to blow my mind - but it hasnt. Now my household is MEGA pet hair city. 3 Chinchilla Persians, 1 Labradoodles, 1 goldie, and a tortie Persian mogg All my rugs/carpets need awesome edge to edge pick up. The shark doesnt cut the mustard on this.

Anybody own any pets that super-shed and have a home with carpets? May you recommend an upright vacuum please? The one I enjoyed the most is the Oreck, but I fancy a change, and not to keen on cordless as Ive had so many battery deaths.

I dont mind buying from QVC as long as the darn thing picks up flock-like pet hair

Welcome back JR. The Miele C3 isn't an upright & it needs bags but it's really effective & finds even the most embedded hairs & fluff.
 
maybe its the pet hairs thats killing all you hoovers. i don't have a pet and my vac last a very long time. also i know with Dysons they are easy to take apart if you have a blockage it does not make them redundant
 
my miele cleaner died after less than 3 years which puts me off. my most reliable is dyson as like i said you can take it to bits to clean it

@ boffy - Yes maybe its all the hair thats screwing them up, even though they all get brushed daily (the cats mainly)
I have heard this before regarding Miele vacs I think Miele are great for washing machines though
My elderly uncle is in accommodation that has a laundry room, and the 3 miele washing machines have been running all day, every day spinning the Y-fronts of 30 other residents, since 1997

@ Julius - you know I was just about to click to buy a Henry!!... actually a 'Hattie' but I thought this sounds too good to be true! does it truly pick up hair worse than the fuzzy white stuff that sticks to everything?

going straight to Miele online for a gander...

What a shame Miele dont do a lightweight. Oh and why is everyone going nuts regarding the 'awesome' shark and 'brilliant' g-tech? Have I missed the memo on those ones?

Heya JR's ego. My mother used to have a Dralon sofa that was full of static. Every little bit of dust seemed to be attracted to it and the Henry did a grand job. We never have any pets but now as an adult approaching middle age I still have the same vacuum cleaner and it does a fantastic job in my flat - after all this time. The design of the Henry family vacs has remained largely unaltered and people keep buying them, which leads me to think it's a great product.

If I were you I'd try and buy one from somewhere with a money-back guarantee, or get advice from a specialist shop - one that provides janitorial products will usually have powerful vacs - or if you have a friend with a Henry, ask them if you can borrow it, and try it out for yourself.

(You can fast-forward any irrelevant bits). To save you some boredom - Hetty is very good. She vacuums, reaching up to 9-10 stairs with the standard hose. Argos provide an extension hose which gives a longer reach. This guy does a really good extreme dirt demo on this video.

The Henry isn't great on carpets, I've a dog and 2 cats, none shed badly but Henry doesnt pick up off carpet unless you work up a sweat and basically scrub the carpet with the brush.
 
I’ve got the very Shark model you mention in the original post, and think it’s fab! In fact, I got rid of my Henry when I realised how good the shark is.
My spaniel and cat both shed hair like there’s no tomorrow, but I find the shark the best vac I’ve ever had!

Definitely, we have had Henry hoovers in my school for years but on the very flat dense carpets in schools it is a scrub job so with pet hairs I think it would be a sweat fest to get a result.
 
henry vacs are suck up only. i like vacs that suck and beat with a rotating brush with lots of power and that have a good motor. my sister bought a romba the round flat computer one. after the dyson cleans she set up the roomba fab.

I have the same combo, an old Dyson multi floor and a Roomba and a Gtech for quick whizzing around. I am on my second Roomba. We are away for extended periods and I think the Roomba battery has died even th9ugh I charge it and remove it from the machine to store it.
