Not really my cup of tea and I wouldn't have it if I could (my asthma has been a hundred times better since pulling ours up along with changing to wool bedding), but I do like her bedroom carpet. That alone must've cost an arm and a leg.

Anyone else notice it?

We'd looked at barn conversions before buying our first house but I honestly couldn't live with open beams. I'd never be able to get up there to clean and after staying in a friend's house with open beams as a kid and being scared witless about giant spiders (and even demons! Kids and horror stories!), it put me right off to this day.

I do like a bit of property porn, though.

Spiders are welcome in my home. They eat flies. Mom sees the cobwebs & thinks I'm weird - but a cobweb is their 'home', that they've spun themselves.

Being personal - have you got a wool duvet, mattress topper & pillows or blankets on top of sheets? I discovered wool duvets after staying in a Travelodge Hub a couple of years ago & have two, I normally swap them at the beginning of May but it's been so chilly we're still under the thicker one.

I don't mind spiders and won't seek them out to remove and definitely won't kill them but if I see a big hairy one running towards me it does get caught and put outside. I always keep a glass nearby during their busy times specifically for this job. I also have an Aldi spider catcher that does a great job of catch and release. Before I had that a microfibre duster would get the ones on the ceiling.

Not personal at all - you can ask me anything :)

I have a duvet and topper (on top of a memory foam mattress which isn't recommended but works for me). I also have a pillow that you can fill/remove with extra wool. I got mine from The Woolroom. I signed up for emails and got sent an offer code. They also have regular sales.

The difference changing my bedding to wool and removing the carpet has made has been life-altering. I was waking at least twice a night with asthma attacks. Now they're rare. No change of medication. Removing the carpet made a difference but swapping down for wool stopped the attacks overnight.

I think the next best bit for me is the wool 'scent' that I occasionally get a whiff of. I helped out on a farm as a kid so remember the distinct sheep smell. Mr. AE can't smell it but I look forward to catching that whiff.

I had no idea Travelodge was using wool. I'm impressed.

I'm useless, it was a Premier Inn Hub... I couldn't stay in one for more than a couple of nights but this trip was a jam-packed one just before my birthday & - Tony Hadley, The Wiper Times, seeing the poppies (again) at the IWM & watching Darkest Hour from under the lightest but warmest duvet I'd ever known. It was only when I stripped the bed before we left that I saw it was wool, I did my research when we got home & ordered our first one from The Woolroom. I'm currently sleeping on a buckwheat pillow & have thought about a wool one, do you recommend? Even little granddaughter has wool duvet now!

I have a memory foam topper. Like you I really feel the cold. I live in a warm flat so to go to bed I wear a cotton tshirt with fleece bottoms. I sleep under the duvet cover from Cozy Homes and never but a duvet in it. We are away for 4 days and I am wearing the same but I'm hugging a small microfleece blanket as forgot hot water bottle

Apologies for the very late reply. I've had a really poor week.

I've tried a buckwheat pillow but couldn't get on with it. It's just too solid for me. I used to love my latex Dunlopillow pillow but even that got too hard. I'm a side-sleeper but in the last few years my ears have become too painful to sleep on. I've tried sleeping on my back but wake myself snoring every 20 minutes 😂 .

The Woolroom pillow I have can be unzipped to add/remove extra wool so you can either have it stuffed as full as a sausage or flat as a pancake. I make a well in mine that my ear drops into so less pressure. I tried it out of desperation but ended up having it pinched by Mr. AE when he was nights as he likes it, too. I bought an extra bag of wool at the same time as he likes his full. You can make it softer or firmer but pulling the teeny wool balls apart.

I'd wait for a 30% sale, though, as they're not cheap. Throw a bag of wool in at the same time as it does compress over time.

The benefits of wool from the lack of dust mites to not being easy to catch fire (safer for children) to thermal properties and eco-friendly makes me love it even more.

Are we all polite and helpful here? I always strip the bed, sort the bin, clean around the bathroom before leaving a hotel. I always feel sorry for the cleaners as some people are pigs and leave the rooms in a hell of a mess.
