Had a very weird experience with Amazon. I have started reading books again, my Kindle needs to be charged and being lazy decided I want real books again, three so far in the space of a few weeks. So ordered last Saturday and due for delivery Monday 12th shipped from Fife, so 4 pm notice problem and the book will not now arrive until 13-14th. Well nothing yesterday and now no tracking just arriving today. So I am thinking damaged in transit, and they had to get another one shipped?

I ordered a rug from eBay. After a couple of days tracking said that it was being returned to seller. I contacted the seller and they said that it had been damaged by the carrier and was on its way back to them so did I want a replacement or refund. I asked for a refund. The next day it arrived with not a mark on it, packaging intact as well. I was pleased but would have been nice to get a refund as well 🤭

That's so interesting about Burmese.

When I retire I have been considering getting a dog (so will educate myself properly and see how can get hands on experience before getting a dog if I am still up to in, and up for it)... I was considering Basenji, and they are apparently quite a cat-like breed 😁
I have had cats before, though, so maybe a Burmese could be an option if eventually I am not a suitable dog owner.

Watch a few episodes of Dogs Behaving Badly and see where the owners have gone wrong. You'll be pack leader so you'll need to be confident with handling or you'll pass on your nerves to the dog. It's all very well loving your dog to bits but it'll need to be socialised before other people will love it to bits, too.

Get the right dog for you and your lifestyle, don't be seduced by cute and treat it the right way and you will never, ever regret your decision to get one. They truly are (wo)man's best friend and an absolute joy to have as part of the family.

Can I ask in what way you'd be expecting a Basenji to be cat-like? I haven't seen one for years but the one I knew was very energetic and barked a lot. He wasn't at all for curling up on your lap or even a belly rub (unlike just about every other dog I've met). He was very, very nasty with strangers and very protective of my friend. Her teen daughter was terrified of him. He was adopted, though, so they had no idea how he'd been treated. I think you might be better off getting one from a breeder that knows the breed extremely well and may allow you to see properly socialised adult dogs in a home setting.

Me and the husband have been talking about getting a furry family member and we’ve been talking about going the Dogs Trust, there are all those beautiful dogs just waiting to love someone and be given a loving home. Trouble is though I said to the husband how will I be able to pick just one out of all those abandoned dogs, and walk away from the rest, it’ll be hard. So we’ve decided get one more holiday out the way next year, if it’s allowed then, and then we’ll donate all our love and time to our new family member..............can’t wait!! 👏👏👏🙏❤️
You could get a cat instead.

Trying to contact Amazon nightmare. Ended up phoning after checking and now saying tomorrow. So they are sending out a new one if the other one turns up I can return. I just said to the woman on the phone I think this is lost!

I have never scanned so should be interesting if I do get the original one and have to return it.

Freya follows me around like a dog, want to be in the certain of things you are doing. As I said if started as a kitten can be trained to go for a walk on a lead.

My friend has a Maine **** and a Ragdoll. The Ragdoll is so chilled and like a baby, will happily perch on any available shoulder to be carried around the house. She also uses the loo! I was amazed to see this. She allows herself to be put in a harness and taken for a walk.

The MC is more standoffish and will tolerate humans when she wants something.

They're both indoor cats as the Rag will follow anyone home, has no recognition of danger (they live on a busy road) and would be very easy to steal.

If I wasn't allergic I'd buy a Ragdoll in a heartbeat.

I’m holding out for ideally 2 kittens or young cats from the local Cats Protection home but think it will be months yet before they resume adoptions or fostering (which I could do). I really miss living with a cat, but it took me 18 months after my Eric died to consider getting another cat.
Our Cats Protection branch have been offering hands free homing since last year. I was offered 3 kittens in the 2 months that I was registered with them but they weren't suitable for various reasons.

I can, unfortunately, imagine what your ex-neighbour's children are like with a mother like that.

That made me cry.

We have a Springer Spaniel who is walked miles every day rain or shine. She loves water and will dive into a river in the middle of winter if not held back (though even if she escapes the lead a good shake when out and a run around later has her warm and dry by the time she's home. She'd have a coat off and ripped to shreds in seconds.

Only small short-haired breeds need a coat.

The jackets and jumpers are for the owners that really should have stuck with dolls.
My Springer also loves the water, mud & puddles. One Boxing Day (at Granny's in Bath) we took him for walkies. Granny stayed in. There were barges on the Kennet & Avon Canal & he JUMPED IN!!! (we don't encourage this) & swam along. It was hard to get him out again. He is a good swimmer & loves it.

It won't be easy as all the cats I've had brief encounters with (allergic) have had such widely different personalities. I don't suppose you know of any of Eric's relatives?

It's a bit easier with dogs as they tend to stay closer to breed personality-wise.

We had a Springer when I was a teen that I loved more than any of the dogs we'd had before or since. He was my dog if you know what I mean. Decades later I was able to trace his line through the kennel club. We bought one of his descendants and although she gets walked by Mr AE she still comes to me for everything and if I join them in the garden she'll bring her toys to me to play with. She's so much like my old dog it's frightening. She even has similar markings. We got lucky.

Mud and puddles :) I'm surprised ours hasn't developed gills and webbed paws 😂

Obie found a really muddy boggy puddle on one walk & lay in it. Filthy, smelly bogmonster...

We have a pool down the road that has that weird pond stink you get a whiff of as you pass. A tight lead is kept on while passing but we've occasionally been caught out. Filthy, smelly bogmonster sums it up quite accurately!

Luckily, we lept an old tin bath for such emergencies. What is about dogs that LOVE any kind of wild water that they hate a bath, though?

I've found Dew to be fantastic at washing off fox poo when Mr AE isn't around and the fox has left a little unwanted present in the garden.

We had the very same - lovely victorian tinbath for Obie. he was very good in it. He hates the family bath & shower spray, but we felt bad bathing him (albeit ina hot bath) outdoors in the cold - but I don't think he minded.

Now this Dew. I've been meaning to get in touch. I paid a discounted 5.60 for 400 mls of clinisept - the same stuff? Which is the Dew equivalent. Don't want any larger than one litre bottles ideally, as I have no room, so which size is the best buy, & is it cheaper? I get confused with all the different names - disinfectant, detergant, hand sanitiser? I just want the hypochlorous acid for mouthwash. Is this dog wash a soap like product? Just spraying is not enough for the bog monster.
That pond pong is horrid. Sounds chinese, which amuses me!

It's a spaniel thing. Mum's dog does the same thing.

Anyone thinking of getting a dog should give all us dog folk a shout on here and maybe we can help. I've always had rescues and the ones that no one else wants at that. On the other hand there's been dogs I've wanted and been told no. Not the right dog for me. When I win the lotto I am going to buy land and have my own dog rescue.

Billy Devitt is something of a local hero. He was made redundant from Thomas Cook when the pandemic started but he didn't sit and mope around. He turned his home into a cat rescue centre. If anyone is interested he is on all the social media platforms - Wisteria Cat Rescue. We got Milo from him and wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to anyone. He is a little 🌟
