Or @Battiola73 could just stick to using their boiler and central heating and enjoying hot baths whenever, a warm house, and not have to pay over the odds for this inefficient (and likely more expensive to run) item IW is flogging.

To be honest, I read the quip you're poking holes in as more of a wry observation than a statement.

Less about whether central heating can or can't be configured, and more about the fact Ideal World's presenters glibly gloss over the everyday practicalities of doing so, telling old folks watching, many worried about heating bills, to go and turn their central heating off and 'av a buy.

'Don't heat your whole house, heat the room you're in - that's what smart people do, and it saves you money, so get this while we've got it, loads of people are coming in now I've said that… web's gone berserk… I knew it…'

So yes, it is possible to have hot water with the central heating off.

If people are happy to do that, and want to buy the electric fan heater/ceramic radiator/oil/halogen lamp/whatever IW is selling as the panacea of all panaceas this week, have at it!

But I suspect most would do the obvious:
  1. Save money by not buying an electricity-sapping heater from IW
  2. Use your existing central heating system
  3. Adjust your thermostat/timer to suit
  4. Turn radiators off/down in the rooms you don't use
For the best money-saving heating tips, I hear Chef Mark is the man to ask… Water + electric grill = instant heat.
Yes, I know, just felt like pointing out the technicalities.😊

I think just heating the room(s) you're occupying, is a reasonable strategy, and just possibly you might turn off the gas CH completely to save wear and tear and costs and just use an efficient heater in the room.

We do this when we haven't turned on the winter heating yet, as it's been quite mild so far.

This is the Ideal World myth continually put forward by its presenters. The 2nd Law of Thermodynamics essentially states that heat always spontaneously flows from Hot to Cold. So how can you possibly contain the generated heat in just one room especially given that the internal walls in houses are not insulated?

Quite easily actually.

I have all the internal walls in my living room covered in tin foil ... and the window ... and the doors.

I do not leave the living room all day. I have a kettle and basic supplies to keep me going food/drink wise.

When I need to emmm, how can I say this, relieve myself, I have a bucket (with lid.)

So again, I have proven how it's EASY to follow IW's advice when it comes to heating.

Well I have to say that you’re all wrong!
I have a very eco friendly way to heat my room. I have 1 IW presenter sitting in each corner and gently massage their ego’s and off they go spouting hot air!!
Can’t stop ‘em babbling on and on and on…warm as toast!

Simples
Is Chef Mark in your kitchen

…and I hope that whichever bonfire she attends that someone sticks a rocket up her ar*e and sends her into orbit.
Can you just imagine? She would become a second moon…but a moon that doesn’t stop fu**ing talking..(Sally I’m on about)

Correct It's known as the Pedro-effect.

He sits in one room of the hovel clad in sherpa blankets and a pair of the tartan slippers. He has gauntlets that came free with a leather duffel bag.
The walls as insulated with weighted blankets.
He uses pashminas he bought from IW2 as draught excluders.
Having 10 watches on each forearm keeps the blood pumping.
Copper flasks filled with warm collagen provide makes sure there's a hot drink to keep the temperature while he applies Emu Balm.

It's the way the other half lives while we all shiver.
