Of course even QVC have made out over the years, all the presenters are your friends, and I guess for some who don’t get out and have Visitors, Sally, Peter, Mike , Jeremy etc, maybe the only people they see.

Sometimes you wonder if they know there Demographic, as when selling Batteries they say these will work In your child’s toys, Doubt they have many viewers who have pre teen children

And the vision of that silly woman in the ad. prancing around her living room flinging Shake n' vac everywhere and trying to beat the land speed record for vacuuming her lounge. Happy days.

Every time I see Yannis, I think of Torchy the Battery Boy. It's the eyes (I know, I'm old)

I love the way Yawnnis has that permanent surprised look on his face all the time.
I hadn't actually heard of Torchy the Battery Boy before, but I can see where your coming from!

Oh that takes me back, when I was a child my dad used to sing "Murray Mints, Murray Mints, too good to hurry Mints. Why make haste when you can taste the hint of mint in Murray Mints..."

Anyone remember the 1980's advert. for kit kat chocolate biscuits? Two men eating kit kats while sitting with their backs towards a panda enclosure? While the men were breaking the kit kats in half, the pandas emerged wearing skates, did a brief Torvill and Dean dance behind their backs, and then skated back into their enclosure. The two men were oblivious all the while. Loved that ad. it was inspired.

The Smash martians were brilliant. "They peel them with their metal knives, then they smash them all to pieces". Absolutely fantastic.

Remember Fred, the Homepride Flour flour grader? Nearly every family had a china biscuit barrel made in the shape of Fred, with his black bowler hat.

I did quite like Yawnnis when he originally started broadcasting on IW, but he is now gratingly boring using the same tired old routines.
The one that annoys me the most is 'This is genuinely, genuinely, a good, good unit'.
Who, who genuinely calls things a unit these days except possibly a salesman?
And course everything is a 'Game changer'.

I see Peter Voltageneck uses the Simon Iles technique when giving his expert help on waterless wash and wax shows. He cleans it and then burns a small amount of lighter fluid.
He and co-presenter are then astonished that the paintwork is unaffected.
Surprise, surprise flames and heat go upwards.
'Look' they say 'the bonnet barely feels warm, that carnauba wax is really doing it's job!'

Still got my mum’s Fred spice and herb containers on a wooden rack. The big Fred flour shaker we used to have as well. I think you had to save up vouchers cut off the flour bags to get for free + p&p.

I wouldn't even restrict it to chavs, a lot of society are either unable to or unwilling to think for themselves, and are easily persuaded, manipulated etc. Why we have such a big advertising sector.
Coupled with that we have a society that seems to idolise and want follow & copy, hang onto their every word and action, of any tom, **** or harry for being a celeb, tv personalities, influencer etc. Makes for easy pickings for those celebs/influencers wishing to take advantage of those that idolise them.
Humans in general are really a bunch of sheep. Some are way more sheepish than others.

I think the celeb/influencer comment is interesting, particularly on selly telly when they try to be your friend and say you can trust us.

I recently needed a new washing machine so went to John Lewis. Spoke to someone who was helpful, asking about budget, usage etc. He listened to what I said, particularly my comment about wanting one that was simple to use. He recommended one which I bought. I trusted his judgement but at no time did I think he was my friend. He wasn't pushy, he was polite and helpful, just said the merits of a few and narrowed down the list until I was sure.

In fact, when people in shops are too pushy it makes me very uncomfortable and I back away. A friend of mine went to Curry's with her partner to buy a laptop, they did tons of research, knew exactly what they wanted and wanted to buy it in store not online. However the assistant was so pushy and was pushing another model, this is better, more suitable blah blah (it wasn't, they had researched it and kept telling him so). He wouldn't fetch the model they wanted so they walked out and bought it elsewhere.

I bought my last washing machine from an independent shop abou a mile away from where I live. Had a list of what I needed it to do. Salesman went through it with me and advised what met my criteria. This was on a Friday morning, delivered on Saturday, fitted it in, took the old one away. Yes, it was marginally more expensive but the delivery/removal was cheaper and quicker.

Most other more expensive stuff I get from John Lewis. Usually get extra years free warranty.
