I know this is a little after the Prai show has aired, but something's been niggling me a little. You see Cathy? Whenever she's going on about the Scent of a Woman perfumes, she says: "frankincense... the most expensive ingredient in the world to put into a perfume". Now, I'm no expert on perfume, but isn't that wrong? Isn't the most expensive ingredient in the world to put into a perfume something like the finest jasmine sambac or something? Help donna255! I noticed Alison seemed to cut her off pretty quickly every time she said it, but maybe I'm imagining that.

Yes jasmine and rose are the most expensive. In fact both per gram are more expensive that gold, and we are talking 24ct.
Now there is a shortage of Frankincense so the price has gone up big time.
Sandalwood from Mysore in India is the finish and all trees have to be at least around 10 years old before cutting. There is a ban on all logging of the trees at the moment at the level is so low. So companies are using cheaper versions which does not always work and can change the character of a perfume.

They probably use cheap and nasty chemical synthetic versions of said precious oils and potions.

Synthetics have been used in perfumes for many many many years. Aldehydes used in No5 from the beginning 1920,Shalimar has always had a synthetic vanilla note.
Certain natural oils have been banned some for good read such as real musk(the deer is endangered),civet,castoreum all are from animals.
But the IFA has gone totally nuts and banned all sorts of ingredients in case of allergies and perfume houses getting sued.
LVMH who own Guerlain,Givenchy and Dior are famous for dumping down and changing classic perfumes by using cheaper oils. Strangely they never lower the prices when they do.
