Dont expect to hear Pippa t-calling in about the KA.

When she was on with the Ninja the other day she said how shed bought a VERY expensive, mixer, iconic, retro looks, top of the range, over £300 bah blah. It was obvious she was talking about the KA. She went on to say that she never used it. There was no room on her counter for it, so it was stuck in the utility room and was too heavy to move.

Think on before you order!

I've wanted one forever BUT I wouldn't use it because of the faff of cleaning it - plus I know my limitations... I'm lazy!

It's like the Land Rover adverts that show it roaring through a stream, barrelling though 3 feet of snow and climbing up a mountain but, let's face it, most of them are now only ever used for shopping / school run / townie stuff...

QVC, like Land Rover, is selling an aspirational kind of perfect lifestyle but I wonder how many just buy it as an expensive ornament...

When I retire I'm gonna get one !

As a full time worker in the NHS I don't have time to get the use out of one currently

OH and I are both qgood cooks, but sadly don't have the time to warrant the expenditure atm

Ooooooooh I knowwwwwww, I'm the same, love the idea of it, but all the faffing of assembling and disassembling and washing the parts, plus WHO has cupboards big enough to house it ? It needs a utility room of its own, AND great for cooking for a battalion, but I'm one on my own, so its a handblender and whisk for me !!!!!

I would love one but have a Kenwood Chef which is only a couple of years old so cannot justify the spend on another. I keep it out on the worktop and I use it every couple of days. I make all my own cake now - much cheaper and nicer than shop bought stuff. I make bread dough in it and it is nicer than shop bought or the stuff made in the breadmaker (mine is now in the back of a cupboard). I also have a chopper and a slicer attachment and do use them occasionally too but they are a little more faffy to wash.

So if you keep it out you will use it, and it is not difficult to clean - just a bowl and a paddle attachment.

I love my Kitchen Aid mixer, it's the Classic which is the one QVC sell and is only available in white. Much cheaper from Amazon. The coloured ones are the Artisan, which is slightly more powerful.
Now Brissles, I am also a one person household, there are lots of us now, and if I can use it so can you! It is very easy to clean and yes, you do need to keep it out on the work surface but it looks beautiful. I am sure you deserve one too.
Not much help but I bought mine when it was on special offer from Amazon at £150. Worth checking them out.
And on the subject of Pippa - I don't think she looks like a woman that spend much time at the cooker. Or the mixer.

Oooooh er!
Just checked, now £319.99 - what we like to call a considered purchase!

I want one, and ordered one from Amazon but then cancelled the order when I saw the Ninja. I figured that the Ninja can be sent back in thr unlikely event that it doesn 't do everything we need it for. Plus I think the Kitchen aid is more for baking, and it is not always clear whether a food grinder snd strainer will chop and puree, which is what we actually need. If you add on the cost of a glass bowl and other attachments the amazon price creeps up and apart from postage costs QVC bundles are good value. With the easy pay and money back guarantee I would go for the package on air today, or wait and see what the TSV is on super sunday. I will give it a miss this time round, I think the ninja meets my family's needs right now, and as I said on another thread you could buy 8 Ninja's for the price of a kitchen aid plus accessories. If the Ninja lasts 5 years before needing to be replaced... the last a lifetime argument does go out the window. However it looks beautiful, sounds like the rolls royce of kitchen equipment.... but I have more pressing needs for our money right now so will wait a few more years before buying one.

I've got a Kenwood chef I bought from ebay for chariteeee, love it to bits, it's retro enough for me!
I agree, Pippa looks like she needs a good meal, makes me laugh when they go on about food when it's obvious who enjoys their grub and who doesn't!!

My friend has a galley kitchen. She "Ikea'd" it. Cupboards with those clever shelves that swing out 180degrees, pans on hooks hanging from the ceiling and very clever shelving including corner shelves. I think her kitchen is better than mine because she really thinks about the space she has. She has a food processor on a shelf in a cubby hole that would be useless space otherwise.

I have a galley kitchen too and it's really cleverly laid out but space is at a premium. I have a food processor which I do keep out all the time and that's perfect for my style of cooking. I make cakes once in a blue moon but the food processor slices veg or chops herbs or whizzes up a salad dressing several times a week.

A group of us clubbed together to buy a friend a KA for her 40th birthday and she loves it. She does use it for allsorts and not just baking. They're lovely but there are alternatives that won't break the bank.

I don't have a massive kitchen, but my KitchenAid remains out as it gets so much use - I home cook every day and regularly bake for a growing family. I have so say I don't find it arduous to take apart or clean at all and I hate washing up or anything maintenance-y. It's like a toasted sandwich maker or a juicer, if you clean it straight away it's a breeze, if you leave it it's a nightmare. It's so sturdy and simple in design that I put it together/take it apart with my eyes closed and with a bit of umph if you know what I mean (unlike something like my Jack the Lad juicer which is plastic and I know I can't smash about :giggle:)

I think part of the problem is that the KitchenAid (like the Kenwood and similar) is often thought of (and sold as) a super-intelligent robot that will cook, clean, take the kids to school and make you a cup of tea when it's finished. It isn't, it's a mixer. If you do tons of mixing, whisking or beating, like I do, then it's fab as it does give you your hands back to do something else. But it isn't a food processor or blender really, I have the grater attachment which gets loads of use for things like cheese and carrots, but it's not the same as pulse chopping or pureeing for instance.

Thanks ArtDeco, though as much. I just wish Q would make it clear. Looks like hubby and I chose the right one for iur needs.

i have had my kenwood 18 months now. i lament not having one years ago. it came with a blender and food processor but i only use the mixer. the best gadget and most used in my kitchen i just never thought they were as good as they are..

I have a bosch stand mixer and it rocks but I yearn for a dualit food processor. Just two in the house now but I'm not able to whisk or batter stuff anymore and clean up is a doodle.

Dualit: excellent design, no rubbish packages to drive up the price and they're British! Of course the price is high but justifiable if you can afford it.

I am desiring a Blendtec Wildside blender and wish QVC would show them. QVC did one as a TSV in the US for $360. Here the same model is over £500

Also desiring a Kenwood chef but know I would bake and eat too much bread and cakes!

and as my long departed Granny used to say. "Little pickers wear bigger knickers". I'm already a L!

I have a Kenwood Chef but mainly use the liquidiser, for making smoothies.

The other day, it leaked somehow, and there was thick smoothie everywhere, all down the sides of the machine, behind the speed knob, underneath it, and down the side of the cupboard and onto the floor.

BTW I've only used the mixer and bowl once.
