BM - if the prawn/chicken skin method doesn't work, you could get OH to wrap you in a gilet with your arms strapped to your sides, tuck you under his arm and have DD standing by ready to prise your jaws open and blow the sky rockets to the back of your throat down a length of pipe.........

i know it's not what you mean frazz but that reminded me of when those cold cure liquids first came out. i got one, wasn't night nurse but can't remember the name and it was soooo vile, i actually went and read the label to see if i should have rubbed it on my chest. lol!

and FP's chok eclair comment brought back another memory. do you remember feminax? when my friends and i were in our early teens, we used to get terrible period pains and we all took feminax. when i was about 13 i was meeting my friend to get the bus into town and running late as usual, grabbed the feminax with a bar of choklit to take on the bus. put a tablet and a square of chok in my mouth and chomped - omg! give me the period pains any day.

anyway, louis. he's definitely been up and down with 4 vomiting episodes now. in between he eats well and is quite perky. the last vomiting was only a few hours after his injection so didn't fit with the level tailing off. the vet said the pancreas inflammation can "switch off and on like a beacon" so he assumes that's what's causing it.

we went to the vet on wednesday for blood tests and apparently he put up quite a fight. glad i didn't have to witness it. the vet tried his neck first so he has yet another shaved area but was unsuccessful so had to use the thin vein in his inner thigh again. normally the results would have come back yesterday but i didn't hear anything, having waited in all day, so they obviously didn't, which of course means a long wait till next week. i won't know what the specialist vet has in mind until then because it all depends on the results.

he now weighs 7.3kg and even with my mother's eye, i can see he's too fat. he's having to squeeze himself through the cat flap. considering he was 4.9kg in hospital, he's done very well but increased weight and steroids carries a high risk of diabetes. so although obviously this is far preferable to 4.9, it's yet another worry. he's never been this heavy, before all this started he was pretty stable around 6.2 - 6.4 kg. i thought when he went outside and was more active, he'd slim down but he's just got fatter! i'm loathe to cut his biscuits down because i don't want to encourage him to forage outside. both vets agree with that for the moment but he can't keep on gaining! he's not a greedy cat and now he's having his spoonful of venison every day, he eats less biscuits. it's a difficult one because if he starts losing weight, i'll worry about that too!

anyway, fingers crossed for the results. these are quite important because it's the first ones since we switched steroids and also the vomiting indicates the pancreas is iffy.

Oh poor you and Louis janie, its been a rough ride and you're still on the wavy waves, going up and down. But lets hope the
blood results come back okay next week. I can just imagine Louis seeing the vet, and thinking "he's not gonna get blood

i'm delighted to report, james rang and all lou's results were really good - the pancreas one that had gone down to within the normal limits (having been one of the highest the spec vet had ever seen) last time was considerably lower! the liver enzymes were back to normal. cholesterol and glucose both down. ALL RESULTS NORMAL!!!!

specialist vet david has emailed james a detailed plan to lower and spread out the steroids over several weeks/months, provided he remains well of course, in the hope of getting him off completely!
