Bit of fun...

Which presenters (or perhaps even guest presenters) from Ideal World's past would you like to see back on screen?

Dean Wilson (hot hot hot), Carla Laszlo, Paul Lavers and of course Whatters.
The thing is, Paul Lavers is probably one of the worst shopping telly presenters ever, but he was like car crash telly and did it so badly it was good!!

Couldn't agree more. Those 4 were the tops. Carla was absolutely stunning, Dean was a hoot. always worth watching, Paul a good laugh, and Watters was just a lovely guy. Would love to see Debbie Flint back as well, just for her laugh !

I think I'm the only person in tv shopping land that didn't think much to Steve Whatley, he used to get on my nerves with his gushing platitudes. I always thought he'd be high-maintenance as well.

And yes, I'm fully aware I've just committed a mortal crime.

When Paul Lavers went to IW I think he felt that he was in charge a bit more than at QVC. I watched him once and he was just talking utter rubbish. He was selling kitchen stuff I think. I had to turn over as he was getting on my nerves, trying to be a comedian as well I felt. There was Doug on there years ago with his wife I think.

OMG after all these years it is still the same patter on this forum, whattersis great blah de blah. Dean couldn't sell toffee, great laugh maybe but that my friend is about it. As for Whatters - the guy was a bully, he spoke to imagery floor managers beside him on screen and gave everyone who had the misfortune to meet him a hard time. No it wasn't character building, it ruined careers and to be perfectly honest I honestly couldn't care less if I get chucked off this site but if I do it will be for telling the truth. Don't think for one minute those guys love their customers - jeez. They love their £100,000 salary that is exactly what they all love.

yup it's being ground alright, thought this thread was a bit of fun:33:..not for some obviously! What's an "imagery floor manager?"

What I fail to understand monkeyfunkey is how you expect us as viewers to know what presenters are like to work with, we are just viewers?

Yes, we know that the presenters are only glorified shop assistants in your view, but they can make a difference to whether an item will sell or not, and therefore influence the success or failure of a shopping channel. Okay Watters might have been a pain off camera, but he was still a joy to watch compared to some of today's presenters. Also, the guy is sadly dead, and cannot defend himself - does that make you happy ? I take it you have some inside knowledge regarding the presenters the way you have put them down. We the viewers don't, so we can only judge by what we see on our tv screen. And by and large, the majority of presenters do a good job, and in my opinion deserve every penny they get. Sorry if this offends, but I have never been one for character assassination, I prefer to make what I hope are constructive criticisms.

Look, they're all a**holes really, they shall we say 'say anything' it seems to sell a product and sit selling all day, do they truly believe everything they are saying? I personally think not, and I know a lot of you don't either.

Yes, Whatters was orrible off screen if it is all to be believed, but one other female presenter on IW who has many adoring fans just cos she's funny, was heard by one of my friends being incrdedibly homophopbic onscreen the other day which all passed you by 'cos she's lovely'. Some guests on IW have run companies into the ground, not paid staff it is alleged, but we all ignore that.
Some of IW's products are sourced it seems and the makers paid a pittance if you look at the on screen price, but we all forgive that cos we're getting a bargain. I couldn't personally have a coffee with any of them because of what they do, they are all lower than a snakes belly.......

BUT...
It was nice to have a fun thread about who we liked rather than slate this poor company into the ground. So the lighten the hell up, stop having a go at Whatters for a start, the man's DEAD! he brought a lot of pleasure to a lot of people and for someone in this industry that makes him GOLDEN to me.

SO, back again to the fun part after we have been hijacked...

Dean Wilson, a hottie indeed, always nice to look at, couldn't care what he was selling, is that me bad monkey? hehe.
Lavers was amazing, I always used to love "you've got your ON button and your OFF button" on technical products, ah those were the days.
Carla was lovely and smiley, and of course Whatters, where a Saturday night in with the telly never was so much fun :)

Thread back on course....

You're not the only one.I won't belittle him or his memory on here, but I didn't like him at all either.

I used to love the Christmas shows with Steve - even bought some of the glittery blue fabric items - tree surround, and waistcoat and bow tie for hubby to wear on Christmas Day. Tacky I know but they are just so sparkly and I bought lots of the glittery stetsons too :).
All the Ideal World presenters seemed to get into the festive cheer - if it was just an act, it was a bloody good one :)

Carla was good. Don't know why they dropped her. The young girl withy the blonde hair that was on IW has presented a few products on QVC. Can't remember her name tho.
