Out Of Touch With The Credit Crunch?

Poor Julia! Four weeks if your hair is a totally different colour to your roots is unsurprising. That's the trouble once dark hair greys! Also she has lots of hair so doing it herself wouldn't be an easy matter. Add to that sitting under the scrutiny of lighting and cameras.

We want to see their human side when presenting but then criticise when they give away some personal details about themselves. If you were sitting chatting to a friend who you knew had less money then it would be insensitive keep talking about your spending habits perhaps but lets be fair qvc's audience is varied. So for every person it annoys there will be others who identify with her. Would you prefer she sat there and lied about her life?

We all have choices about how we spend our hard earned cash. Some peoples vices are smoking or drinking and some are going to the hairdressers!

How people react to the credit crunch is different. For all we know Julia has cut back on other things just not getting her hair colour done.

I have cut back as, I am certainly not well off, I have a very limited income but I have not cut back on getting my hair cut, that is my luxury, if I didn't it would be detrimental to my health as it would take so much more effort for me to do if it wasn't cut regularly.

As I said every one will react differently.

Very good point Sazza. I have few clothes and have had the same coat for three years -Hayley Cropper eat your heart out! - but I love my Ojon, and Liz Earle.

I've got short hair and go to the hairdresser every 5 weeks and pay £30 for a trim & blowdry. I don't colour it, but occasionally I might treat myself to some highlights, which costs about £55. I don't smoke, so I count it as my personal treat to me :1:

I also have my highlights done every 8 weeks and with a trim and blow dry it costs £61. I would imagine that prices in London would be much higher, so Julia's £64 doesn't sound excessive to me.

Well I think that Julia's hair is glorious, I've never been able to get my hair to grow so long or thick so I don't blame her for touching it up regularly. Only thing is how and when she's going to let some of the grey come through, it's one thing holding onto your dark hair in your 50s but it looks a bit odd having dark brown or black hair when you're in your 70s. But she's a woman and wants to look good and why not if she can afford it?

I am another who daren't leave having my colour done longer than 4 weeks-in fact if I have had something special to attend, I have been known to touch the front up myself inbetween. I buy the same colour as my hairdresser-koleston-and the peroxide and she has shown me how to mix and use. I have had the same mobile hairdresser for 14 years now. Her prices have recently gone up (like most things!) and I now pay £40 for colour cut and blow dry.I live in the south east and this is pretty standard for mobile-I have priced up a couple of local salons and they quoted £68 and £72!My hair is completely white-not grey and has been going that way since I was 19,same as my dad. I am now 48. I may need some treatment over the next few months which would mean I couldn't have the colour and I have no idea how I will cope if thats the case ( I am thinking I may need a wig!).My hair is medium brown but the white still stands out like a sore thumb, and I have tried going lighter but it just didn't suit my skin colour. What to do! I just don't feel like going white yet even though I recently lost the length and have gone for s horter bob as I felt the old style was getting too 'young' for me.

Wow, I'm pretty low maintenance - I only go to the hairdressers twice a year!

What is a hairdresser anyway. My granddaughter does mine every cuppla weeks with a pud'n basin <a href="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fwww.smileycentral.com%252F%253Fpartner%253DZSzeb008%255FZNxpt484YYGB%2526i%253D4%252F4%255F1%255F10v%2526feat%253Dprof/page.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_1_10v.gif" alt="SmileyCentral.com" border="0"><img border="0" src="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fimgfarm%252Ecom%252Fimages%252Fnocache%252Ftr%252Ffw%252Fsmiley%252Fsocial%252Egif%253Fi%253D4%252F4_1_10v%2526uiv%253D3.0/image.gif"></a>

I used to have my hair cut and coloured at the hairdressers, but it cost a fortune! It was only a matter of 4 weeks and the grey came through and another £60 went out of my wallet, so I asked hubby if he would put the colour on for me. He now does it and it only costs the price of a Nice & Easy hair colour and I have it trimmed every few weeks at the hairdressers.

My husband has been colouring my hair for years with what ever colour is cheapest at the time. I haven't had my hair cut since christmas eve but as I am going on my hols soon I'm treating myself to a cut next week. With all the money I'm saving by not buying so much on QVC I sho:13:uld be able to go more often.

All of Julia`s work wardrobe, hair care and make up will be tax deductable won`t it? As being necessary for her job.

so what if julia roberts has her hair done and pays £65 a pop. she is on tv and has to loook good.and she does that very well.
i noticed that the daniel green plug was pulled as well... good.
a bit of banter is one thing but that went too far so has this!!!

My point is that since she was trying to justify us spending £14 on a very small bottle of serum in this credit-crunch, maybe she shouldn't have then told everyone she spends £65 a month colouring her own hair.
For a professional, it didn't seem a very savvy or empathic salespitch in these lean times.

To be honest would do better to spend more money on getting a good stylist to actually do something with Julia's hair. Many of us here have commented in the past how it is too long and tailie at the end. She has naturally curly hair and has it straightened within an inch of its life. Get whoever cut Alison Young's hair and get them to do something pretty and stylist for Julia.

The thing is that I'm sure if you lot were on tv, then you'd have your roots done that often too! I'm sure if she came on air with root growth, then people would be posting on here about her roots showing!
She can't win!
And realistically, she probably is paid a heck of a lot more than we are, so she can afford it. This is why I'm very glad that I don't have a job in the public eye.

Exactly what I was thinking. Anybody in the public eye has to spend a lot more on their appearance than the rest of us. If you have to fork out that much on your hair colour, it makes sense to spend some extra to protect it. Anyway, it must be working because I had no idea she's so grey!

I never realised a trip to the hairdressers cost so much I am lucky one of my daughters is a hairdresser and does my hair when needed another daughter is a beauty therapist so have no problem with nails I did get my hair done in France last year as I had been away 6weeks and it needed work as beach and sun had taken its toll but full colour and style only cost 40euro which I thought was quite cheap not so cheap now as £ has dropped

Julia goes to the Hair Salon in Harvey Nicols, Knightsbridge, unless she has changed recently.
So it’s the Daniel Hersheson salon, that is responsible for Julia’s barnet. I would have thought they could do a better job, with Julia’s hair. As it always looks too bouffant and rat tailed at the ends. As this salon is not your average hairdressers, it’s one of those designer high tech salons that also offers spa treatments. Ms Roberts is definitely not a good advertisement for the salon.:32:

I would imagine so. As I have heard of ‘glamour’ models, who have claimed the cost of their breast implants as tax deductible.

I agree if she goes to a salon in Harvey Nicks her £65 sounds quite reasonable (though is that just for the colour?). My hairdresser charges £68 to colour, cut and dry my hair and I live oop north!
