I agree with Rosey – it’s horses for courses.
I wear a ton of make up! I like to look polished, and as if I made an effort - but not like an overcooked glittery rainbow! I mostly choose my make up on the basis of tone and texture and light reflection rather than full on colour. I won’t tolerate poor quality, poor performance, or lack of longevity so I am a ruthless returner of make up to QVC if it doesn’t do what they said on air that it would do.
I really respect brands like Bare Escentuals who have great brushes and when you buy a kit it usually includes the brushes you need. I have a good range of my own brushes, but brands who expect me to buy a specific specialised brush separately tend to lose my business.
The last six months or so a group of friends and I have been holding monthly swap meets where we send round emails beforehand saying what we’ve got up for swap and then on the night we get shot of things that didn’t work for us and get to try some new ones. (toiletries, haircare and skincare as well as make up and brushes.)
So at the moment my collection is honed to perfection and I don’t have anything in it that I don’t use, need and love.
I’m primarily a Bobbi Brown girl with significant contributions from Jemma Kidd, Sue Devitt, and Mally Beauty.
I have a few choice items from Smashbox, MyFace and Bare Escentuals, and one or two from brands like Dior, Pixi, Urban Decay, Clinique, Bourjois, Benefit, Estee Lauder, Lily Lolo, Everyday Minerals, Pop Beauty, L’Oreal HiP, Too Faced, Prescriptives, Cosmetics a la Carte, Make Believe, Amazing Cosmetics, Gale Hayman and YBF! I still have two Models Prefer items in semi regular use!
These are the items which have surivived the six month cull.
I took pictures of my make up stash for another board recently, and I can post them if anybody else is like me in enjoying a nosey at other people's stuff!
