2009 and they still continue to sell Dennis "Butcher" Basso stuff.

Shame QVC cant do a Woolworths and vanish!

Much as I agree with you Graham, he is an odious creep etc. I am wondering whether we are actually heightening his profile by discussing him and it maybe more effective if we ignored him. I'd love him to go out of business but I think hell is more likely to freeze over, particularly as furs are be coming a fashion statement again (for shallow brainless wearers IMHO).

I disagree. There have been quite a few active members of ST who didn't know about his practices until they were enlightened by us ... so there are probably many many more people who read the QVC threads, but don't post - at least the message is getting through, which it wouldn't if we ignored it.

Graham - do you still have the link to the broadtail report? Can't find mine x

Really wish QVC would get rid of Dennis Basso, I will switch off when he is on.

His coats etc still sell in the outlet shops, as well as on the shows, people happily buy them, therefore the message isn't getting through to everybody. Do the people buying them know of his activities or care, or do they satisfy their conscience (Sp?) by thinking they aren't buying real fur. You never know though, it could well be that when Basso's contract comes to an end, with the current recession, it may not be renewed.

Thousands of people don't have a comp or are not on a forum like this one so they won't know.
My mum bought me a lovely coat of his 2 years ago, it was only through this site that I found out how he really trades. Before that I would have been happy to purchase his coats but not now though.

Some people don't care, but many more have no idea how he really trades.

Get shot of the t*at and stop funding his horrific trade, the growly voiced git from the stinking bowels of hell.

I know, but that is the only medium available to us, bar phoning/writing/emailing/demonstrating outide QVC. So imo we should make the most of being able to reach the people we can.

I too bought a couple of his coats thinking what a nice man he seemed, and also how qvc presented him until I found this forum \I had no idea what an evil person he was and was mortified to learn I had in some way funded his business perhaps someone needs to phone in as a t caller when he is on and simply ask why he still deals in the fur trade, nothing illegal in asking a question, all you would have to do is tell qvc you lurve dennis and wish to tell him so.... in fact I mightjustdo it"!

the more mentions dennis basso gets on here the more it pops up on google search engines. if every appearance makes 1 more person aware that is fine by me.

If customers know the facts then they can make the choice. I know many disagreed with me last year but I still believe that if all the QVC presenters got together and said that we are not selling his stuff it would do the job.

I doubt the presenters would do that though. QVC would just get more presenters to replace them.

Quite agree....it's called contractual obligation! They don't have a say in what shows they do.

Why not target QVC USA with complaints? They are the head office and if they stop selling Basso then surely the UK would follow.

He seems to be on all the time these days so QVC must be shifting the units - the bottom line with QVC is, and always will be, profit.

For those not aware of Basso's other side, I found this excellent explanation from Mad Granny Sue on a previous post:-

For those of you who don't know, he specialises in broadtail lamb products which are obtained by ripping unborn lambs from their mothers' bellies (the mother simply being stunned and therefore still alive) after cutting the mother from neck to tail, so as not to damage the fur on the lamb. The lamb is then skinned alive and its little body chucked on a pile of other dead lambs. This is all done in the name of so called vanity! The wool is tightly curled and very silky whilst the lamb is in the womb and that fetches the best price because once the lamb is born the wool starts to uncurl and loses its' sheen. The broadtail lamb is mostly used for collars and cuffs on his coats.

Basso is not the only furrier selling broadtail, but QVC are quite happy to scream about their ethics when it suits them, yet they persist in selling the products of a man known best for his fur.

Basso also like chinchilla too, it takes 1000 of these little furries to make one of his coats!

I don't have any real fur. However I am a meat eater, leather wearer, and I have a lambs leather jacket from QVC.
I have Basso faux fur.
It doesn't make me a supporter of his other trade.

I just think we should be careful of alienating those members who enjoy his faux fur by making them feel guilty by association.

I eat some meat and I wear leather too. Personally I don't want to alienate anyone or make them feel guilty - just want people to be aware of the facts so that they can make their own decision.

I agree and with the facts to hand customers can make the choice, sadly QVC would never dream of mentioning Dennis Basso's vile trade so most QVC customers will remain in the dark.
