Looks like they've lowered the standard P&P costs to £2.95 delivered in 4 to 6 days by Royal Mail. But delivery by DPD is still available for £4.95, may not be next day though.

Web shopping is also affected it seems, stick as much as you like in the basket, but its at risk until you check out!

However I do like the new Recycled packaging, no more huge plastic bags and masses of bubblewrap....and heavy boxes which bump up the SD costs if something has to be returned. No mention of notification emails and texts though.....

Yes had the email too, no boxes with purchases so if buying something for a present would have to buy a box, delivery with Royal Mail is a bit of worry as can be unreliable also p&p charges for each day no combined weekend postage :(

Not sure about this

Wonder when website will be back up and running?

Yes items being sent RM is a worry! At £2.95 I can't see it being a trackable service that is being used.

Disappointing the changes to the weekend orders, I see on the e-mail they didn't even finish the explanation of it, there is bit missing as it ends mid-sentence!!!

Thought those of you that don't know already would be interested to hear that they've been flogging their old packaging on Jewellery Maker even though it has their logo on it (which of course suddenly doesn't really show up much nor mean anything?) It ain't cheap either given the logo (£1 each for necklace which it was suggested we could charge £5 each for - that may be how they operate, but it certainly isn't my way. This pressure to buy combined with Steve's tantrums when peeps don't finalise sales has now put me off JM as well now as Gems, so it seems I shall no longer be buying from any of the channels. For me it's not just about money, but the inconcenience of waiting in for parcels 2 -3 times per week, and the faff of checking and putting away small but multiple orders. As it is my orders have been meeting one another and I'm effectively paying nearly £10 for one delivery. There's always an excuse, Bank Holidays, Jubilee and the dreaded never-ending renovations. They should have just closed up for a couple of weeks and got it done properly and swiftly, rather than drag it out and give lousy service. They said they were continuing to trade for our sakes, yeah right, too tight and scared we'd find somewhere else in their absence.

Phwaw! That's a load off - for now! <a href="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fwww.smileycentral.com%252F%253Fpartner%253DZSzeb008%255FZNxpt484YYGB%2526i%253D4%252F4%255F2%255F205%2526feat%253Dprof/page.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_2_205.gif" alt="SmileyCentral.com" border="0"><img border="0" src="http://plugin.smileycentral.com/http%253A%252F%252Fimgfarm%252Ecom%252Fimages%252Fnocache%252Ftr%252Ffw%252Fsmiley%252Fsocial%252Egif%253Fi%253D4%252F4_2_205%2526uiv%253D3.0/image.gif"></a> xxxxxxxxxx

I noticed that too Sazza - lol. No doubt it was something about how it was for our benefit. Yet again another hurried notification AFTER they've taken the action. The bigger they get, the more Mickey Mouse it's becoming. xxxxxxxxx

I`ve no idea what Gems are playing at but late yesterday afternoon ( around 4pm ) I bid on a silver ring off Gems extra, it arrived in my basket and first thing this morning I went to pay for it only to see no longer available in red type over my item. The ring was in my basket for much less than 24 hours and they`d emptied my basket. I realise people must bid on items and then change their minds and simply leave stuff in their basket for days but they should give you at least 24 hours to pay for something, especially if you`re working or caring for kids etc.
As for the new p & p well is it going to be recorded delivery or signed for delivery ? I wouldnt be happy if something was sent through the regular post and then went missing because it wasn`t recorded or hadn`t to be signed for. Hate to say it but especially around Xmas there are some light fingered posties and I know this from experience.
I`m not bothered about Gems no longer using ring boxes or earrings boxes, they were poor quality anyway.

Considering you are not supposed to send jewellery recorded delivery I do wonder how Gems are sending the items RM, at £2.95 is it going to be Special Delivery? Not likely! Must admit if I order, not done so for ages, I would stick with DPD, I know where I stand with them!

I suppose they are following the example of QVC and TJC who ship jewellery via Royal Mail, although the more valuable QVC items are sent via DX. Hopefully they will use discreet packaging because it won't be insured and delivery times lengthy if it goes out 2nd class. As Sazza says, using DPD sounds a safer bet, particularly for anything costly!

Wonder what their Facebook followers have to say about this? :smirk:

What most people do not realize is, recorded delivery is not a tracked service. It only shows the item left A and was signed for by B. So if it goes missing they have no way of finding it unless it shows it was signed for. Tracked is a different service and you can follow where and when it arrives as it moves along. Justbeautydirect use Tracked and charge £3

Well, it must be second class if it's four to six days. I am concerned about the value of things and the poor level of service from the post office. I've had several things go missing from QVC over the years but the only thing that has gone wrong with DPD was a crushed package.

I wish they were offering a once a week consolidated delivery with DPD - that would suit me down to the ground.

Great news about the packaging - I am very, very pleased with that.

The way things have been for the last few weeks on JM, no matter what you pay you're likely going to wait almost two weeks. I too am sort of glad about the packaging but am concerned about heavy beads - as it istands anyhow there are always breakages as the packing is so rushed and awful. I'm waiting for last week's order and then I'm going to try and call it a day. I'm beginning to feel concern for staff and working conditions in the warehouse - oops sorry "vault". I'm going to need me willpower though as I'll want to watch the programme and it's such a lazy way to buy. xxxxxxxx

Weekend Order Changes?

Hi,

Still sort of on topic! What are the new weekend orders having changed about them? Will it no longer be one p&p from Friday to Monday 2am? I haven't had the email from them that you guys have. Thanks,

Inge xx

I got the email, but I'm sorry, I seriously think Gems has lost the plot.
The only good thing about the changes is the reduction in packaging - everything else smacks a bit of desperation to me with cost cutting at the forefront. Times must be hard because for how long have they been banging on about the wonderful weekend combined p&p? I always thought that good CS was Steve's upmost concern, but I really do feel that over the years all the good bits have been gradually withdrawn, and to add insult to injury, we're usually told it's for out benefit!
Meesh posted a few weeks back that changes were afoot. Well, the few times I've flicked over to Gems recently, I've seen cheap looking jewellery presented by fairly dire presenters, but maybe I've just been unlucky. Furthermore, the only news I've received from them about changes seems to be negative and my dreams of re-igniting my love affair with them seem to be becoming fainter and more and more unlikely.
Five months since I ordered from them and this from an original 'Snatch-It!' customer.

I so agree Jacqualina. All that was good and different about Steve's channels has gone. I'd say they are now like any other shopping channel but now so dire I can't even say that. Customer service has taken a massive dip (not the workers but the principles they are left to cope with) and if you don't like being bawled at by matronly boobs (even JM is going into X ratings now) or nursery maids, then it's pointless watching. Muting is one thing but I don't seem to be able to manage without a picture either. Ah well, they do say all good things must come to an end, and it looks like we're there. I sneeked over to FB to see who they were bullying now, only to find that their attention seems to have been totally taken up with the appalling service offered - I suppose one could say that this makes JM a social service - lol (I haven't looked at the Gems page as I've not bought or even looked at it for yonks). xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I'm interested now, I'll go have a nosey and report back spies.jpg xxxxxxxxx

Had a quick look at the Gems FB page - my oh my, how quiet it is. JM page is constantly on the go.

I was interested to see that someone from Gems remarks on their posts from time to time - not on JM. Very little moaning about the p&p but pro rata to the overall number of postings. No comments at all about appalling deliveries. I've often wondered if JM was taking a back seat to Gems when it comes to service and now I'm convinced that this is the case. Boring page but glad I looked. I had assumed that a large number of the peeps that used to post here had gone over to FB, but that doesn't look to be the case at all. Just a general lack of enthusiasm for the channel, together with umpteen broken promises, seems to have been the cause for the loss of postings here. xxxxxxxx

I`m a fairly new customer of Gems but after today I`m done with them. The other day I bid on a silver ring, went to pay for it the morning after and it was gone from my basket. I wasn`t happy but thought fair enough, I left it overnight so maybe I left it too long they must have shortened the length of time you can keep things in your basket.
Today I bid on a pair of earrings, went to make a sandwich and to watch the end of the Gems show I was watching, nothing else grabbed me so I went to pay for the earrings and in 20 minutes they`d disappeared from my basket. Now that`s taking the mick in my opinion !
If we have to dash off to pay for something as soon as we place it in the basket then a) we`re missing the rest of the show and therefore b) we`re hardly likely to buy anything else and c) it makes you have little faith in bidding on anything at all because what`s the point if they`re going to swipe them from under your nose within minutes.

The problem for me is that if I keep having to check out items to ensure that I actually get them, my bank stops the card because over frequent use in a short time span on one site triggers a suspicious activity alert. so that's gonna be really helpful on something like a Glenn Lehrer special - so thanks for that one Gems - you really thought that one through for your online customers.

I would have thought an easier option would be that customers who hit a trigger limit on not checking out their baskets had some sort of cap on their account so they got their accounts suspended or their baskets reduced to a couple of items ..........
