Thanks AndiK. Very interesting to compare your new one with Marina's older one. I can see more depth and pink in yours, looks like a lighter version of mine. All very annoying. I've started staring at people and admiring their matching faces and necks. That's what I want!

I do think I ought to see a make-up specialist to tell me what colour I need. I just use my own judgement and I'm sure I get it wrong sometimes. I had a shade-match done at the No.7 counter in November - twice actually, and different result each time! No wonder I'm confused.

I tend to use Benefit Porefessional mixed with equal parts That Gal under my B&B when I remember.

If I've not got those to hand, then I do have several tubes of LG primer (which I don't really like... but they've been in kits I've bought in the past), as well as a small tube of BM primer that came with another kit I bought.

Yes I had that done at boots when I wanted a new concealer. I was cool beige, which is a bit too pink toned. I use that shade to conceal but would look decidedly feverish if I slapped it everywhere.

Re primer, I always use one. I've used spackle, which feels lovely and cooling but that's all. I like a mattifying and pore blurring and generally use nano blur or m.asam perfect teint.

I don't feel that a primer is necessary, although bnb looks better with spackle underneath. I only have it because it was a part of a TSV, otherwise I wouldn't bother and most days I don't unless I have a couple of minutes to spare.

Reason I do that is two-fold - you get the best of the pore minimising and the illuminating, and less risk of rolloff which I experienced when using porefessional on its own.

Thanks, BF. I was Cool Beige at No.7 as well, then Warm Beige.

Think I need to experiment with primers. I've got a couple in the stash but, apart from the Bare Minerals one which dries right down, I always thought of them as more for liquid or cream foundations.

I could never use one as a foundation substitute like they say. Mac does a nice one BUT I am well impressed with M&S Autograph which is cheap and sometimes 3 for 2. The 15ml tube is like Smashbox and the 30ml pump is like Mac or Spackle.

I never liked sparkle, it just left me really shiny looking. I also rate m&s autograph primer, I use the one in the pot, it has a soufflé like texture; I also like their dd cream.

I like the Bareminerals Neutralizing one and bought a duo last year from QVC but both were congealed so I have to trowel the contents out of the dispensers rather than pump them out! Was too late to send them back and they still do the job albeit not as easily as they should.

I've tried Spackle and the Elemis one. I can't honestly see any difference so it seems a waste of time, effort and money to my mind. I know others love them but if I can't see any difference I can't see the point.

Ditto, I cannot see one bit of difference when I use a primer. It's just another unnecessary step in my opinion which brands can claim is necessary to boost their their profits. I can see the point for professional photography and make up artists, but for every day use it feels a real waste of time and money.

It may be that it has become necessary, since bnb became powdery, or, they changed bnb formula deliberately to sell another product, and it now needs a primer as people complain that bnb dries their skin.

The ones I use blur pores and give me a smoother finish. Also, having invested time and cash on liquid gold and its fellow exfoliants which have given me clearer, brighter skin, I don't want to undo the good work by buffing foundation straight into my pores. I'm not one for adding lots of extras to my routine but primers do a job for me. Some folks are lucky and their skin will always be great no matter what.
