Jeff spilling the beans......

Anyone see Jeff spilling the beans last night?

He said "I'm going to be very candid with you all. There are some things I'm just not allowed to bring to you. We ask for them - but we're told we can't have them on this show. There are certain items that we can only sell if they're on with Dave Troth or Toby Cavill".

He said "I used to be able to bring you Jade shows, but these days, I'm not allowed. I can only do Jade shows with Dave Troth - and he's not been on at this time for about 4 years now. He has to sleep sometime, so he no longer comes on this late".

This made me suspect that someone on this forum was right a while ago that Dave Troth and the Cavills 'rent' airtime to flog stones that they've sourced - with Gemporia probably getting a nice cut from each sale. Maybe this explains why things are FAR too expensive - to cover the overheads of those hours and 'splits' of the profits?

To the best of my knowledge, Debbie Cavill doesn't work for Gemporia - so I would imagine that the only reason she gets to go on TV selling the 'Cavill & Co' range is because she buys airtime too?

IF this is the case, it's a win-win for everyone I guess - the 'guests' get to flog their stuff, and Gemporia get to fill airtime without needing to have their own stock for those shows.

It probably also explains the reason for Troth constantly being on-air, despite all the complaints online about him always being on, being boring, etc.
But not a win-win for the buyers.

I think Jeff is VERY frustrated with how the situation is at Gemporia right now. I think he gets irritable about what he is 'allowed' to bring to air and what he is not, often mention he's asked for certain pieces but that they are scheduled for another show or he simply hasn't got the 'authority' to bring them on his shows.
It's frustrating for customers too and often get the feeling he'd like to say a lot more about it but obviously can't.
I feel so sorry for Jeff at times because he is the best, most knowledgeable presenter that is actually believable on there.

If he cared that much he'd have resigned by now surely?
On that note I see Elena Stephens has announced she is leaving Jewellery Maker in order to open a restaurant.

These days it isn't that easy, is it? People have bills to pay and commitments. OK, Jeff has at least one other string to his bow in his design work, but even so. All credit to Jeff for seemingly being the only presenter honest enough to say they don't like what's going on. He's a pleasant, knowledgeable and factual presenter and they should be doing all they can to keep him on-side. Instead, they seem to prefer the know-nothings (the name 'Lyndsay' springs to mind) and the screechers and compulsive gigglers.

Really? I thought she was highly thought of! Just shows I know nothing.
'Surplus to requirements' was, allegedly the term used. I wonder if they regret that now that Elena has announced she's leaving.

That being said, Zena seemed to be off an awful lot - so perhaps that played a part in their decision.

Dave Troth was flogging some jade the other day. He was going on and on for 45 minutes, then with 15 minutes before show ended he brought on the pieces.

The bold bit made me swear, but I'm too polite to say it here, but it wasn't too far from kinell. NOT disputing, just sounds like it. I know trade get things for a fraction of retail, but £2
I can believe it. Gem Collector had some gemstone carving on that can be bought in China for a couple of quid, even seen them on Ali express.

Let’s not forget that he was made redundant when they had the last cull, and he came back, so the ethics or lack of can’t have bothered him that much. Don’t get me wrong, I think he’s the best presenter they have, and when I used to watch, I spent a fortune on his shows, but I haven’t purchased anything in nearly two years because of the appalling sales tactics of what was a great company to buy from.

He's good at that. Had a show last year and didn't 'start' the show until at least 1/2 past the hour and didn't give a price until, and this is not a joke, nearly at the close of the hour.

And that is disgraceful. Surely 'they' know people are not 'that' stupid. They are, more often now, telling folk to do their research, so if 'folk' do their research and find so and so at a fraction of the price AND looking just as good, if not the same, as the items being sold on their show, surely they expect to lose customers?

They insult the customer with this practice, well they do me. It makes me want to scream at them to go away and not that politely. They are so hard faced while doing it but I have to ask myself are the newer customers not aware of the the practice?. I can only think they are not! We are because we know the Gemporia of old..They are blatantly conning people and I can't cope with that hence I no longer watch and definitely do not buy.

I know this isn't news to the regulars, but I watch it just to see if it improves. VERY doubtful, sadly, but I don't really watch it with the same enthusiasm as I did previously: not when I was a new watcher, but having noticed the downward spiral before joining this forum, and having that confirmed once joining this forum, I listen on mute and watch with one eye. And to think, in the earlier times, I learnt a lot from the channel: to the point I'd impart that info. But not now.
