I'll stick to the high street, thanks.

I crumbled on my resolve not to spend and was tempted by the Emu boots, as I've been after some boots to keep my feet warm for a while now. I plumped for the TSV and followed the advice to go down from my usual half-size. I didn't think the price was too bad and with easy pay, but baulked a little at the £6.95 P&P charge. Fast forward a few days, the boots arrived and I just couldn't believe how uncomfortable they were. I'm sure most people love their Emus but they're not for me - I found them to be too tight round the toes and too lose round the ankle, so my foot was moving up and down as I walked. Therefore, they had to be sent back. Because of the value, they needed to be sent special delivery, which cost me the better part of £8. So, all in all, it's cost me £15 to try on a pair of boots. How stupid am I then? I could have half a tank of petrol, a day's parking and lunch on the dreaded high street for that money. Never again, that's for sure. One bitten, twice shy!

These was a happy ending to this. I was in TK Maxx yesterday and found a fabulous pair of Bearpaws. They fit perfectly, are easily as good a quality as the Emus, and cost less than QVCs first easy pay. They've got a nice chunky sole with a bit of heel and the lining is thick and sumptuous. They even match the colour of the designer handbag I bought in there last month! Result!

I don't find EMU boots comfortable either. Apart from my heel moving up and down when I walk they are too flat for me. I prefer somethhing with a bit of a heel.

Glad you found the Bearpaws and are happy with them.

Yes, if it's a product you can try out in the shop before buying it's best to do that. The boots are a good example as you'd have realised they're just not for you.

However, at the moment I am not going to complain about QVC's P and P. I bought the clarisonic, paid about £6-7 pounds to receive it and a little bit more to send it back, a lot of money. It did nothing for me, so I'm thrilled to be getting a refund for it (£150). Would have just been stuck with it, and a lot out of pocket, if I'd bought it on the High St. Also, I've sent make up back in the past and got my money back so I'm not grumbling.

I try to be shrewd with my buying, get the stuff I'm certain to keep off other p and p free sites but get some of the 'experiments' from QVC, some I keep, some I return. Realistically, the high P and p charges are there to cover our returns and in my experience I win some I lose some.

Bearpaws Fan

I bought Bear Paws in TK for 30.00 a few months ago. Was chuffed to bits and they really are lovely and warm and I think the price online is much more. Was a real bargain and could not justify buying EMUs even with easy pay. Particularly when Bear Paws to me are just as good if not better as they do have a lovely grip and they were fine in the snow.

Glad I'm not the only one who found them uncomfortable.
I sent for the TSV over 12 months ago, and also found the toe area very tight, and knew I wouldn't be able to walk in them. And what a performance sending them back.

I then purchased the same type of boot from an English company who specialise in sheepskin items, and they have been brilliant ! into their 2nd winter of wear with no problems at all.

I'm pleased to have bought British, makes a change from made in China, India, or even Australia !!!!!

I got 2 pairs of Bearpaw boots (black and brown) from TK Maxx at the start of the winter and paid less for the 2 than I would have for 1 pair of Emus. They're gorgeous and I'm so pleased with them.

I have fallen into the buying shoes/ footwear on line ( not only form QVC) & decided not to go there again. They need to be tried on, maybe go up or down a size, have spent £sssss returning or wearing little as they are not a good fit.

I'm glad it's not just me :) And I must've been in a rush - I've just noticed the spelling errors in my post :) It does still make me wonder if TSVs aren't of the same quality as "regular" stocks.

Question for Brissles - what English company did you use?

Remember you don't need to pay to send them back if you are unhappy with them. Under the distance selling regulations you have 7 days to check them and if unhappy send them back and QVC must refund your postage but to you and back to them.

I love my Emus and I am very glad to have them as they were the original uglys. But have seen the Bearpaws and they look very well made and well structured and only £40 in TK.

No, I don't think so alan. The Distance Selling Regulations state that you are entitled to a refund of your original postage but the cost of returning the product is down to you (that's not the exact terminology but hopefully says the same thing).
