Homeland - can you help?

I am watching Homeland, the current series, but did not see the first series. So far I have managed to grasp what has been going on etc. However, in sundays episode when brodie is taken in the helicopter at the end, he meets up with a man who is revealed slowly by the camera - I dont know who that is - is he from the first series and if so is he good or bad?

Really enjoying it and wish I had watched the first series now. Daniel Lewis is such a good actor in it, isnt he, you can really feel his stress!!
