I bought a shark steam mop from QVC, had it 16 months but only used it probaby less than 20 times. Damn thing stopped steaming, 'exploded' spraying steam and hot water out of its sides and burnt my hand. Been looking around the internet and it seems I,m not the only one who has had problems with this machine. Does anyone know how QVC are about returning goods outside of guarentee if they are not of a satisfactory quality?

Assuming its out if warranty? If still in warranty then by law QVC have to deal with the issue and not the manufacturer. Of course you can chose to go straight to the manufacturer but then you release qvc from all legal obligations.

And after 6 months, the onus is on the owner to prove there is an inherent fault. I think you will be lucky to get any recourse and you may find the small claims court would be your only option if you want to pursue if further!
