Just to update you after all your helpful comments. I searched and researched loads of food processors and decided to buy the Argos basic food processor from their essentials range for £14.99 whilst I made up my mind.
It grates carrots, spring onions, makes crumble. It is just what I needed and it is compact so it can stay on the work surface. I didn't need a blender as I already have one and a hand mixer so I'm all set.
