Totally agree with the comments about surgery ( though it is a matter of personal choice) my concern is how many of these treatments are sold as quick fixes with the matter of pain , recovery time , and after effects are glossed over . My OH has recently had an area of skin cancer removed , due to its position he had to have what would be classed as a half brow lift. This was done under local anasthetic . I have seen this classified as " a lunch time procedure " on a cosmetic surgery website. BUT in no way is it a minor or lunch time experience 3 weeks later he is still in pain, with swelling and an inability to sleep well as the operation scars rub on linen etc. Dont get me wrong he and I are extreamly greatful for the operations but anyone who had this done as a purely cosmetic intervention would be in for a suprise on the level of aftercare and recovery time needed.

I totally understand what you're saying, but in the case of these shopping channels, it's the actual surgery itself they're glossing over, without actually uttering the words, they're saying you can look this good when you're over 60 without the need for painful treatments, and similar painful recovery time...just slap a few jars of this overpriced muck onto your chops and away you go. I'm sure your poor hubby would have preferred to have everything put to rights with a dollop of cream, and it's hearing stories like yours that make me more and more against surgery for vanity's sake alone....Hope his painful scars ease up a bit soon.

I never thought I'd hear myself saying this but I'd rather listen to Alison Young droning on about Elemis, Decleor etc, or Liz Earle waxing lyrical about her mild and gentle treatments 'cause love 'em or hate them, they're in the beauty business...These scarpelled celebs are not, they've got more money than they know what to do with, and then have the cheek (that used to be their ar$e btw) to try and make even more by having us believe that their youthful looks are down to a pot of overpriced cream that happens to have their name on it...aggh!

:mysmilie_687: You've managed to encapsulate exactly what I was trying to say , You just did it better :mysmilie_61::mysmilie_61:

The simple answer is 'beauty' costs big money. It depends on your idea of beauty...I look like a bag of spanners most days but really don't care, if you don't like me because of the way I look then I'd really not like you as my friend. Some of the most 'beautiful' people I know are as wrinkly as hell with lots of 'problem' areas (as the beauty specialists would describe them). Basically the message being sent is: youth is beauty. Until that changes in our psychi then these beauty pimps will be able to ply their trade and make good money out of others insecurities...I'm not giving them my money and will continue to be 'ugly' but happy in my skin. :mysmilie_696:

Huggles, I couldn't put it better myself!! I totally agree with what you say. I will be 50 next April and I do not give a damn about my age anymore. I remember when I was approaching 30 and I was terrified. HOW STUPID WAS I BACK THEN!! I don't believe for 1 second that lu-lu has not had, shall we say, "help" with some form of cosmetic help because I simply do not believe it is just down to her products. But as already said there are gullible people who will unfortunately believe it!! If I have a few wrinkles, so what!:mysmilie_12:

Just watched the video presentation of the TSV after reading this thread and both AK and Lulu look so false,it's ghastly. Why do these women feel the need to alter themselves so. Lulu's cheeks look like they might over inflate and she'll drift out of her chair and like Brissles said, her lips look like Daffy Ducks. And Keenan looks so different to when I last saw her presenting, I tend not to watch the QVC anymore, just read here and use the net for reference, such a shock to see so much difference.
