theres some cake decorating show on tomrorrow and from the trailer it looks like its going to be cupcake central.

i wish this cupcake trend would die. the sight of them loaded withn all that ****** CRAP on the top actually makes me want to be sick. i tried one last year, it was a lemon iced one from waitrose and it was like eating pure sugar. HUUUP!

they are disgusting and the people who obsess over them, and the decoration of them, need to get a life.

that is all.
 
I know they are the in thing, but I've never had one. Are they just like fairy cakes but with a pile of buttercreamy stuff swirled on top? If so, I to have just done a bit of sick in my cheek. (and I loves me sugar, but they look too sickly even for me)
 
Have to agree with you. The only ones I like are the red velvet cupcakes, which I make myself using my splendiferous KitchenAid Artisan using the Hummingbird Bakery recipe. The cake part is dark red and moist and the icing is a combination of cream cheese, butter and icing sugar. In moderate quantities (i.e. not eating more than 1), red velvet cupcakes are sublime.

What's wrong with the great British fairy cake? These so-called cupcakes aren't even made in tea-cups as far as I can tell. Nothing beats a pure and simple butterfly bun imho!

Yes cupcakes are sickly,the thing that makes me feel ill is the obsession with undercooked meat on cookery shows and demos on qvc.On programmes like come dine with me the diners are aghast if their plates are not swimming in blood,I don't understand this at all.
 
Never liked them! I love a piece of cake, but I hate icing and always have to pick it off and the thought of wading through all that yuck on the top turns my stomach.
 
I love them. But I guess my sweet tooth is what makes me the woman I am today (ie 16 and a half stone!).
 
Costa Coffee had a gorgeous cupcake at Christmas,lovely little Black Forest miniatures.

Lashings of buttercream makes me ill but the Costa ones were fab.
 
I have to agree that mass produced shop bought cup cakes are vile, but home made ones are delish! I'm looking forward to the cake show tomorrow as I love sugar craft so hoping to see some inspirational ideas.

Please, no more! Just had to have another Creme Egg! (buying a box of 6 today seemed like a good idea, I could have 1 a day you see...)

I'll just miss my Tuesday egg to make up for it. As long as nobody starts another foodporn thread of course :confused:
