Hi all and a belated Happy New Year.

Whilst prepaing the Christmas dinner I accidentaly spilt some gravy on my EMU stingers. They are now quite stained and I would like to ask anyone else on here who has a pair how you clean them.

Thanks in advance. x

Whatever you do, don't use bicarbonate of soda as previously suggested in a old thread! I took that advice and all it did was make it worse. You could try buy an UGG care kit and use the cleanser bottle in the kit to wash the stain out. Some people recommend blotting the stain and then letting it dry, put brown paper over it and iron. The idea is that the brown paper and heat will absorb the fat from the stain. Personally I found not much worked (I dropped a knife that had butter on it). I had other problems with the boots (bagging dreadfully and tread on soles peeling off after a month of wear) and returned them to QVC for a refund in the end. I bought a pair of UGG boots instead which have been better. I had a little stain on one boot and successfully used the cleanser from the kit. The trouble with Emu is that the boots are now waterproof treated so when you try to wash a stain out the sheepskin goes funny and it dries hard afterwards. I don't have this problem with UGGs despite spraying them with UGG sheepskin protector. Good luck with removing the stain.

I forgot to mention I walked past Johnson's Dry Cleaners the other day and they were advertising a sheepskin boot cleaning service. I'd be inclined to give them ago with any major stain in future

I got the Emu cleaning kit from Aus and it was only £14 including shipping at that time. You get a proofer to protest and block for stains and a brush and a liquid cleaner thing. I have only every used the protecter bit.

I got a spot of oil on some suede boots. They're not the Emu style boots but they're the lovely caramel natural colour. I blotted it straight away with kitchen towel and then used one of those suede cleaner blocks that look a but like a big pencil rubber. And the stain has gone completely. Might be worth trying that before using any kind of wet cleaning method. Have had the cleaning block for years though. No idea where it came from.

I had 2 pairs of emu's which I loved but this year I decided to try uggs

Be careful with the official emu leaning kit. I bought it and it did nothing to help them, Infact the time I tried to clean a mark it just got worse. Have a look on the reviews on amazon for the cleaning kit and you will see it doesn't get a very good rating.

I got a random stain on my Celtic Sheepskin boots and I decided to buy a brush and cleaning block from John Lewis:

Initially, I made a clumsy attempt at trying to clean the stain as I'd sprayed them with a stain repellent, but seemed to do more harm than good. The nap seemed to have roughened as a consequence of my efforts/rubbing.

Anyway, I gave them a brush this week and they've come up really well. There's still a tiny bit of a mark, but nothing major. I'm pretty happy with my purchase. I guess I should try the block and see if I can obliterate what's left.

Celtic Sheepskin do a specialist detergent which I bought, but I'm going to get a season's wear out of them before I attempt to wash them!

One tip to remember when cleaning your emus: always take your hand out first

Stains on your Emus - S20

There was a thread around Christmas time about getting a butter stain off someone's new Emu boots.

Last weekend I split some bio-oil on my Love from Australia boots - very similar to Emus but cheaper (off Brand Alley I think). Typically, this was actually before I had even managed to wear them out - I was well p*ssed off!

Anyway I was watching the demos for s20 laundry sheets and they removed a dried in oil stain by rubbing the laundry sheet directly on the mark. So I thought I would give it a go - and I can report that my boots no longer have a stain. I had to do it twice and I did wipe the boot all over with warm water afterwards so that on the treated boot the suede is not as soft - but hey no-one goes round stroking their boots (unless that chap with the shoe fetish is reading this).

Hope the lady who posted reads this if she hasn't had any success yet - it's worth a try:happy:

No idea what they are like in the washing machine though:confused:

Thanks for that tip. I was the OP with the butter stain problem. As it turned out I returned them as the seams were coming undone. I bought a pair of UGG minis instead which are much better so I'll bear in mind your advice if god forbid it happens to me again!
