I'm not sure anyone thinks that was what was being stated, apart from, perhaps, yourself. The buying a microwaveable cake mix because one wants to bake a cake incredibly quickly is indicative of the gimmick-loving society we are becoming. It is arguably much better to buy a decent ready-made cake than to "bake" a horrible one in a mug in a microwave oven, seemingly largely for the gimmick of having done so. One can buy all manner of "instant" things - instant cappuccino, instant tea, instant soup, microwave chips and so on. None are of any gastronomic merit.
