I read, about a year ago, that one of the casualties of the decreasing prices of household appliances (specifically "white goods") is the longevity of the products... to the extent where it is now cheaper to buy a new replacement in many cases, rather than repair the original. Is this your experience, Louise, as you are working in that sector of retail?

when i bought my miele vacume cleaner well over 10 years ago it came with a one year guarantee and it broke down just over two years. my dyson had a 5 year i have had it now 8/9 years and still fabulous. i find that miele should have had a 5 year guarantee years ago after suggesting it will last 20 years.

the manufacturers are making white goods cheaper by using materials that they know are cheap and therefore disposable. you will not be able to repair white goods as they use plastic drums and bearings. i like things that last and perform and will pay a bit more. who wants the hassle of disposing whte goods every few years
