Ann Dawson on Yankee Candles and Beauty Shows

I am roughly the same age as Anne and my hair seems to have been on a similar journey! It started thinning at the onset of the big M, and went through fine, frizzy, dull and awkward phases. Just lately it seems to have settled down a bit, and seems thicker (or at least I haven't noticed any...

    Round Folding Storage Ottoman 06/03/15

Heart-shaped? Oh pur-leeze... Haven't hearts been done to death? Have been redecorating the smallest bedroom and have gone 'shabby chic' but don't like hearts, trying to find twee bedroom-y things that aren't heart-shaped is very difficult. As for the ottomans - imho they look cheap and nasty...

What's the last item you bought from QVC and kept?

I buy very little these days, and my returns have always been low, even in the early days. I bought a L'Occitane TSV, think it was around Sept last year, have been using it and love the lavender bath foam!

Which l'Occitane soap is your favourite?

I've never forgiven them for discontinuing the fig....

Saints preserve us - you mean we get wrinkly as we get older :Shok:

    Centigrade tsv 12/2/15

Yukkk - I agree. Has way too much going on - a jacket like that should be neat and simple. Hideous on CH. Looks like star-ship crew apparel from a sc-fi 'B' movie.

QVC purchases found in the back of the wardrobe!

We are finally getting around to redecorating one of the bedrooms that hasn't really been touched (other than a lick of paint) since we moved here in 1997 - all other rooms have been done at least once. Emptied a built-in cupboard which was being ripped out and found, in a box, still with...

Strategies for shopping less at Q

I have to agree that the novelty factor has now well and truly worn off! I first started watching Q about 1999 - watched it quite a bit, on and off, and bought a reasonable amount although I would say I've never been a BIG spender. It was a bit like having a rather eccentric auntie who you...

    Yankee Candle TSV 26/11/2014

There are so many other candle brands out there to try... I'm not fond of many of Yankee's scents although I do burn large jars sometimes as they are good at covering up 'wet muddy dog' smells  I sometimes buy from the UK Scented Candle shop (online) and they have several brands - Seda...

Kelly Hoppen Origami Embroidered Bedspread TSV 20/11/14

Agree with boffy. I'm not a particular fan of the brand, but past offerings have looked quite sumptuous and good quality. However I think this looks cheaply made and very 'shiny' (not in a nice way), also thin and flat.

    Are they Serious? How much?

Q Their food prices are ridiculous. Regarding meat, I have done checks for the last few years and even the top ethically farmed/free-range/organic stuff was cheaper. I don't bother much for Xmas dinner these days, but have had turkeys from my local butcher - Bronze, organic birds from a nearby...

    Nina Leonard TSV 14/10/14

I think it looks hideous on all the models, looks cheap and poorly cut. Wouldn't pay £5 in Store 21 for it, let alone £25.

    Join clothing

I quite like the look of some of Yong Kim, but I think you have to be quite tall to carry it off! I'm short and anything 'baggy' swamps me, can't wear full length coats as they look silly and seem to catch my legs when I walk. I am a casual dresser - jeans, chinos, jumpers, gilets etc. and am...

Eye cleanser and moisturiser help please.

Somebody on here mentioned Superdrug 'Simply Pure' eye make-up remover for sensitive skin (no parabens or fragrance) and I've been using that for a while. I get eczema on my eyelids and sometimes it just disappears for ages and then comes back again. I can't wear eyeshadows, only use mascara...

    Remembrence Poppies

My Dad took me to a Remembrance service in Portsmouth Guildhall when I was about 8. At the end, poppy petals were dropped from the ceiling and one landed at my feet. I kept it for years and it had a profound effect on me. I wore poppies in the 70's when they were not that popular, nor was a...

    I'm SO excited........

Our dog is now 4 and was a nightmare pup! We went through the 'excitable wee' phase. Although he was brilliantly quick at being house-trained, he got very excited when we came in or had visitors. I remember being in my usual panic at the impending visit of big sister (thankfully rare events...

Lodge Farm Kitchen - Ridiculously Expensive

I've had a look at these products on Q website and am incredulous at the prices! Looked at Lodge Farm's own website and the main meals are around £4.95 mark and the desserts £3.20. QVC are charging £27 + p&p for 6 dessert portions. Utter and total rip-off. If you like the look of the stuff...

    Real Pie Company Sausage Rolls

I really can't watch food stuff on QVC. There's something about the continuous parade of the same sort of food items (bits of meat, chocolates, pies) that just turns my stomach. Add to this the lighting, which makes the meat look greasy or undercooked, the unappetising thickness of pastry on...

    Basso and Joan

Sadly we live in a world where animals are constantly exploited. Even if we choose to be vegetarians, and not wear fur, and support animal welfare charities, so many aspects of life have an impact on animals. Milk production, drug research, encroachment of territory by an increasing population...

    Winter white

Winter white doesn't suit me - I need Persil white!! I stick to a colour palette and sometimes it's hard to get brighter colours, especially in winter when everything is grey, fawn, sludgy green etc. I can wear grey but browns, creams, olive etc. a no-no. I've always been a bit wary about...
