Marina Berry reflects on Bid Tv

From Marina's Facebook: "Most of you will have now heard about Bid TV and Price Drop TV closing down. Thanks for all your messages - it's all very sad as both channels have been a very big part of my life. I first started working there when I was 21 back in 2006. I remember applying to Bid TV...

What caused the sudden drop in sales?

I think the main problem occurred by switching to the Shop at Bid format, while still having the same products and presenters. When you had the old Bid format, you could at least pretend the price was falling, that there was limited quantity, that people were getting a bargain etc. When they...

    A request to Graham

Absolutely. Andy is a class act. Hasn't said a word - and he's already doing regular shifts on another shopping channel.

Before we disappear - Last thoughts - What's your bid experience?

Ah yes, I remember the handovers well. Maybe it's a good idea to start a separate thread to share our fave bid-up.tv/bid.tv clips/ - I'm sure there's quite a few on youtube it would be good to share.

Before we disappear - Last thoughts - What's your bid experience?

Good thread Merry (warning: my post will likely be long as well!) I started watching Bid-up.tv around 2004....it was fantastic. A genuinely unique TV experience. The live auctions were incredibly entertaining and exciting - the whole channel was fast paced and exciting. It also looked quite...

    All new price drop

Well they seem to be tweaking the format already. As opposed to the price continually dropping until there's a 'winnner' or a 'better luck next time', they seem to be just holding the price and waiting until they've sold all their quantity. It's basically the old price-drop. Makes sense...

Surely THE Most Outrageous Price Check, Ever!

Oh for goodness sake. I'm surprised that they can even say that or put that in screen with a straight face.

    All new price drop

The only Shopping channel in the history of the world which refuses to sell items to customers when they call for it. Genius. I feel sorry for the presenters - having to stand there for 20 minutes and not make one single sale must be exhausting.

    All new price drop

As others have said - this is such a bizarre idea. Basically people who come in wanting an item can't buy it - hilarious! I've just turned on and seen three "Better luck next times" in a row...which means that they have not made a single sale for the past 15 minutes... How on earth they thought...

    Thoughts/Opinions on Bid rebrand

The feedback has been overwhelmingly negative from their customers (as expected). However, what a lot of people don't realise is that Bid are in dire financial straits - a lot of their customers want the old format to continue - of course, this is impossible - the channel would have folded in a...

One Day Special products are dire!

Not only that...but it's it's still the same shoddy practice of overly priced p&p. When the new format launched they said there would be variable postage - actually the vast majority of One Day Specials are still the £7.99, while some are £6.99. Take the candles on at the moment - £6.99 for a...

    Thoughts/Opinions on Bid rebrand

Really disappointed that most products still have the £7.99 p&p - completely unreasonable for most items - especially considering a 10 working day delivery time. I completely understand all the complaints from customers that Bid has lost their 'fun' element - or indeed their USP of being a...

    Thoughts/Opinions on Bid rebrand

I do think the new logo is awful. I could have done better on Microsoft Word. But the studio certainly looks a lot better.

    Thoughts/Opinions on Bid rebrand

Yes- it will be interesting to see how the likes of Sally Jacks or Peter Simon cope with the new format...surely no more "JUST BUY THIS AT 'OME!". The graphics look very similar to Ideal World's a few years back. It will be interesting to see the product variety over the next few days. The...

    Thoughts/Opinions on Bid rebrand

I think it certainly feels much more professional. Not overly keen on the on-screen graphics - but the website looks so much better. I guess the question will be - will they still sell the tat? I doubt they'd be able to see the crappy poundland products with this format?

    Thoughts/Opinions on Bid rebrand

So Bid have announced a pretty major rebrand: As well ditching the £1.53 phone call, they are introducing variable P&P. It seems that Bid is becoming a traditional shopping channel - each item will have an individual number, to buy you call the same number (charged at 20p a minute) and quote...

    Random musings/no argument zone

Yeah - they are basically just becoming a standard shopping channel. Which, considering they're huge losses, is not a bad idea.

    Random musings/no argument zone

Basically - they're just becoming a standard shopping channel. Item numbers, fixed prices, sales staff, variable p&p. You can't blame them really...they've lost so much money recently while the other shopping channels seem to do OK. They're basically becoming Ideal World.

    Random musings/no argument zone

So - switching to a traditional shopping tv formula - Item number and sales staff. A big change for Bid...

BID TV Can't pay creditors/staff/freelancers and suppliers

I wouldn't be surprised if this turns out to be true - the channels have been in a complete state for the past few months now - and the last few weeks have seen the products/sales just get worse and worse. It's exactly like the last days of Auction-World. Very sad for any staff who may not...
