Our friend Lulu in the Guardian

Ah now she's saying she looks no different to how she thought she looked at 40. Guess a stronger optical presciption is in order dear Lulu :giggle:

TV shopping firm is back in profit

Or could it be that I've bought stuff from them :cheeky: Fair play though, the CEO took action and dealt with the problems to get it back into profit.

Review rejected again - can we believe the integrity of the review system?

Oddly I'm seeing a lot of questions over at another forum I post heavily on about moderation guidelines. I'm trying hard to explain why people get moderated - I'm not a moderator but can see where people are critical and where they just posting without context. BTW the mods are a third party...

    Change!

Er, think they've always done the "hard sell". Its because you (or all of us) watch it too much that its treated more like a normal tv channel rather than what it really is and thats a selling channel.

Has anyone Bought a Brother Sewing Machine?

My mother is on her second Brother machine. First one ended up being too expensive to repair so got new one instead. Note repairable but not worth it the cost when compared to a new one. That first one was a good 13 years in use and regularly serviced which is as ever, key to the long live. The...

    Dell Mini Desktop PC TSV

Now somewhere I read that Benq makes monitors for Dell so there is a premium attached to the Dell monitor for some reason when you look at the equivalent Benq version. Saying that, like all manufacturers they will use whatever supplier be it samsung, lg or phillips for example and then just...

£500 for a cake pattern maker

A few reasons: 1) Different voltages means it costs more to design a power supply/test it works correctly to make it compliant with country regulations. 2) Guarantees: we in Europe enjoy better protection than North America. Far better and they have to comply to sell here. If its made in the...

    Picture Quality

Agree with you on the freeview bit and add that if your local transmitter is still doing analogue you may suffer a bit of degradation. When ours went fully digital, picture quality improved tremendously on freeview. Haven't noticed any difference in output quality from any channels though. Oh...

    USA vs. Europe

My mother was commenting on exactly the same thing today! She's not particularly bothered as it is different (I'll leave it your own imagination over that) to the stuff you get here on the high street. From my POV, if you are going to be buying on QVC you might as well get something different...

    JR Daughter

Which is how the majority of television people work. They just about get a fixed fee for doing the work and all the costs come out of that fee. That and its a tax friendly situation for all involved as you are paying a fixed price for a service by a contractor.

Does anyone else think that Julia Robert's daughter has an equine face?

Meh, the entire entertainment/television/showbiz/reality tv is full of nepotism. The girl has contacts thanks to her mother so if she is being helped out, good for her for at least taking the opportunity. Success varies but as long as she enjoys it what's the problem and its not like she is...

£1.51 Does Not A Saving Make.....

Thats always the headline figures - when you get into it, you'll find that heavy reduction applies to a small part of the stock i.e. stuff they can never get rid of (yes, Next are the classic example, can't sell it then wait till next year!). Realistically, 5% - 20% is normal. Of course, they...

    QVC - A Complete Joke!

Er, who said QVC is for the lower classes (gosh I hate the British self-classification of social order)? It might have the stigma of being a shopping channel but QVC has to appeal to all markets not one particular segment. Otherwise they become stagnant and basically don't sell to those who can...
