I had Margaret Dabbs on in the background. Margaret said that she loved watching the Olympics. Dale quickly interjected and said we call it ‘The Summer of Sport’ on QVC in case our lawyers are watching”.

What?? How ridiculous!! She didn’t say anything derogatory.

Anyone else hear this?

I thought the summer of sport was the football, tennis and the Olympics? The Olympics is the Olympics.

It will be because The Olympics is trademarked and they have to be careful in commercial and promotional situations.

Well that surprised me, Looks as strict as Disney’s copyright laws. Wonder if this includes the Olympic Games that started in Ancient Greece around 800BC or just the modern Olympics started during the 1890s?

I believe that it was only male athletes in the Ancient games, AY would have a field day with that, especially as they partook in the nude!

Thank you for this info. I do, however, think Dale (or probably the people screaming in his earpiece!) overreacted. She just said she likes watching the Olympics.

I should imagine as they are a retail company the rules are extremely strict so they have to be very cautious.

Just watching Margaret Dabbs & Dale on QVC beauty. Margaret said she'd been watching the Olympics, Dale interrupted her and said, obviously flustered, 'we call it the Summer of sport on QVC, just in case the lawyers are watching.'

Because Olympics is a trademarked word.
Intellectual property owned by the IOC.

This doesn't only apply to QVC.
