Wonder if the Prasiolite is such a gorgeous in the flesh?

DD, if you get a good Praisiolite - or green amethyst - it's a lovely gemstone. I've got a ring containing it in my collection and I love it - really clear, it sparkles and it's a very pretty, soft green. What you want is to see it sparkle, and get one that's got the soft green colour palette - some Praisiolites are more white than pale green and you lose the beauty of the stone.

I've just been watching Q's gemstone hour starting just after 8 pm. Some drop earrings were on, with small carat weight of briolette-cut semi-precious gems, choice was either topaz, amethyst, citrine - all semi-precious. The amethyst was very pale, more pink than purple and I'd call it a pink amethyst rather than a purple one. Admittedly, the wirework of the earrings was 14ct yellow gold, but tiny, very thin amount of wirework gold.........£126 plus p&p. I would have said £75.00 top whack. This was followed by a tiny and rather unattractive 9K pendant and chain, the pendant had 2 gemstone drops hanging from it, one was a pearl and the other a tourmaline....nearly £200 plus p & p! The amount of gold in these pieces is negligible and the carat weights of the gemstones (about which they were rather unforthcoming) was very low and only common, easily obtainable gemstones (apart from perhaps the tourmaline stone). I'd say 1.0 carats per earring at very most. Q really do charge way too much for pieces with only semi-precious, very common gemstones in them. And the pendant's tourmaline wasn't even a facetted stone, it was just a polished stone, so no additional work to make the stone sparkle and catch the light when on.

Charlie "I'm the gemstone expert" Brooke was on with a rather monosyllabic lady guest. Charlie "gemstone expert" gave little or no technical detail, all the usual "and remember, these gemstones are set BY HAND", "these are lovely", "these are a big drop", "the colour is so pure". Gawd, it was boring, what with Charlie Brooke's slowwwwwwww drawl, twisty hands in front of his face and the lady guest's hesitant delivery, it was like television Mogadon....a brilliant cure for insomnia.

Admittedly I didn't watch during the day, but if this was a gemstone day and if Brooke was on for any other hours it must have been like watching paint dry.....and the prices are well over the top for what the jewellery is - what I saw was such poor value.

Wonder if the Prasiolite is such a gorgeous in the flesh?

Horrendous! She seems to be extremely prominent in the gem shows, unfortunately. She launched Gem month right at the beginning of the month. I'm just glad that I'm not looking to buy any jewellery, as that would ruin any chances of tuning in. At least I can stick mute on when channel hopping, so the worst is seeing her, rather than hearing her blethering on in that strident, dogmatic and irrelevant way she has!

I'm wondering who gets the joy of the last hour of the day - currently poor Laurie Wickwyre (sp?) is on with her.

I've only caught up with the Brazilian gems presentations from the tv guide - seems to be a lady I've never seen before called Regina - maybe she's Brazilian? She seems to just be repeating some of what Charlie says - so sounds like a female echo of him. Could be she's new to this and rather nervous, or could be that she's not confident with her English, or could be that she's mesmerised by Charlie's slooooooow way of speaking. Truely a bad combination, though she might be OK with a more lively presenter like Dale perhaps?

LATI, Lol. Q seem to specialise in 2 types of presenter - the manic, wild-eyed, desperate screechers (as trained for them by The Presenters Training School, aka Rocks & Co.??) and the slowwwwwwwwwwwww drawlers (yes, Charlie Brooke, we mean YOU!). I'm waiting for him to fall asleep in mid-sentence, and the clunk of his head as it hits the table... The creepy, twirling hand movements in front of the face when they've got nothing to do with the product being shown are an optional extra at the training school - you pay an extra £1.50 for the presenters to study that.
