I think the celeb/influencer comment is interesting, particularly on selly telly when they try to be your friend and say you can trust us.


I recently needed a new washing machine so went to John Lewis. Spoke to someone who was helpful, asking about budget, usage etc. He listened to what I said, particularly my comment about wanting one that was simple to use. He recommended one which I bought. I trusted his judgement but at no time did I think he was my friend. He wasn't pushy, he was polite and helpful, just said the merits of a few and narrowed down the list until I was sure.


In fact, when people in shops are too pushy it makes me very uncomfortable and I back away. A friend of mine went to Curry's with her partner to buy a laptop, they did tons of research, knew exactly what they wanted and wanted to buy it in store not online. However the assistant was so pushy and was pushing another model, this is better, more suitable blah blah (it wasn't, they had researched it and kept telling him so). He wouldn't fetch the model they wanted so they walked out and bought it elsewhere.
