Just wondered what your view is overall on the current version of Ideal World? As bad as most us here make out, or are you more positive towards it?
I don't think my review of the current ideal world will make it through the forum's filters. 😂

But I'll give you a brief if a little biased overview of my thoughts:

- None of the 'nice' presenters have gone there
- Their visual style is kindergarten standard and their production staff have little to no skill. I'd be embarrassed to say I worked in TV if that was my job
- The products are absolute toilet
- Peter is still not really funny
- I don't like the selling style and I didn't like it before, very much. I buy what I like and not because I've been told to

Thanks. I do and I’m sure we all are the same in appreciating your views. It’s good to hear them because you said that you were part of the previous channel, which I thought was a really professional set up for quite a considerable time. Even the price comparisons were done properly. And obviously, it was people like you and your colleagues behind the scenes that helped to make it that way.

No problem.

A number of us were invited to get in contact with TJC when they were setting up. I sent them my CV but was ignored, more than once. So, I won't be gracing their doors now or ever, I'd imagine. I do, however, know people who have gone there and vowed 'never again'.

Whatever you think of shopping TV as a whole, I will say that the concept of IW originally was well thought out and was targeted to be something different. The studios were (in the early days at least) well engineered and people were proud of their work. Most were proud of what they did and worked with integrity. The entertainment aspect gradually disappeared over the years as did the broadcast quality - at the end we were using cameras I once saw on a wall in the shop at M&M world in New York - to leave us with what you saw at the end. It's easy to bash selly telly salesmen but look on your local high street (assuming you still have one) and you'll see it's awash with similar sales tactics: They are just a little less obvious!

TLDR, I miss the work a bit but glad I don't work there.

I think it’s a great pity that people of your calibre and your colleagues’ during the good days at the previous channel aren’t working on the new version. We might have a considerably better product if you all were. Unfortunately, I think the culture of the parent company brings the ‘you get what you deserve syndrome’. Good quality television, clearly, is not part of their desired business model. I certainly wouldn’t want to be working anywhere near the ‘Big Three’. Becque seems okay enough, but the rest….No thanks…

any recommended cruise operators @Muttley - wife is 50 in May next year I looked at msc cruises, not many options left and didn't seem to have any flights.

Not as much these days, but I like to do something similar on motorbikes, this year I was in France, Italy, Austria, Germany, Belgium all in the space of two weeks.
I've only been with TUI, they were recommended to me by family. Smaller ships, under 2000 people, and they don't sail from Southampton, they fly you to Majorca or Corfu or somewhere like that and you pick the ship up there. It suits me because I'm on my own and they do the flight, coach transfer and the ship, all taken care off. They're not at the luxurious end of the market either and you don't have to dress mega smart in the evenings, that wouldn't suit me.

I've done the Canary Islands, Western Med a couple of months ago and doing Greek Islands next year. And I plan to do the Caribbean when I hit a landmark birthday in a couple of years. I've not gone with any other cruise companies and I'm working my way through their list!

I haven't been to many places in my life so going somewhere different each day suits me.

Touring on motorbikes sounds fun, you saw a lot of places in 2 weeks! For this year's cruise I went to Corsica, Italy (excursions to Rome and Florence), south of France and Barcelona.

Hope you find somewhere nice for her birthday😊

Thanks very much Muttley, proving a little bit more difficult as she is a teacher, so fixed holidays etc. I will take a look at TUI.
