In a stunning bid to show consumers that behind every fur coat, collar, or cuff was a living animal who was trapped, drowned, or beaten to death in the wild or gassed, strangled, or electrocuted on etc....

This is designed to shock - you will be upset.

Please do not buy real fur. Please also be aware that Dennis Basso is a furrier in the US and although QVC UK only sell synthetic fur, in the US he does sell real fur.

Jayne, thank you for posting that, it could have been so much worse but hopefully it's shockable enough to get the message across. Too much gore and people won't look at it. IMO it makes no difference that Basso sells fake fur on QVC, he still made his money and reputation out of animal cruelty and I think he is an embarrassment to QVC. :spider:

I cant watch the video it would be too upsetting, no way would I buy real fur!

I had no idea that Basso was a real fur manufacturer in the US (not that I have bought from him-I can't bear him). Thanks for informing me-I agree that just because he presents an apparently ethical stance in the UK, this should not be allowed to hide the fact that he is behaving differently elsewhere.
I wouldn't expect someone like Liz Earle to sell botanical products in the UK, only to sell chemical products abroad, so in my book the same rules should apply! A company should have a set of moral beliefs and stick to them.

I can't watch the video.

I think a lot of people will be unaware of Basso's real trade and it's unbelievable that QVC still endorse and indeed fawn over that man.

Basso is not even just a furrier, he specialises in 'exotics' so is a furrier of the most vile kind.

I always boycott QVC on the days that BLEEP is on it. I also emailled cust.serves, same as many others, to say how unhappy I am about them allowing him to hawk his tat.

I will not watch the video-I just couldn't.

Power to all us decent people.

I did nt realise about dennis basso have none of his stuff but always wanted one of his coats for a treat one day, now i never will send him any of my pennies thanks for the info. Would never wear real fur.

What's really shocking is that it's all flashy images of a model parading around with 2 seconds of an animal being thrown on the floor at the end. Hardly respect is it for a dead animal from this organisation. And they want to "shock" people with this kind of advert?

But hey that Persia White gets an incredible amount of exposure to help her career don't you think? I wonder how much money it actually cost to make. Please feel free to correct me.

Not that I'm advocating the fur trade, just observing what this advert means to me in what it is trying to do.

My take on it is different Sheepdog although I do see your point. I think it hopes to show that glamour comes at a price and it's often animals that have to cough up whether in terms of fur or cosmetic testing. Behind the glossy images are sordid practices but you would never know by seeing the finished product.

I also don't see it as disrespecting an animal. It's a bit like Liveaid, would people have donated as much if it were not for the disturbing images of famine victims? An ad with fluffy bunnies being lovingly fed organic carrots wouldn't draw much attention I fear. Sometimes it has to be the hard sell. I know it may seem strange but these campaigns have been successful in the past, the Supermodel's do carry weight (*cough*) in the industry and of course influence hordes of dumb teenage girls who can't think for themselves. :spider:
